Quaint stay
Quaint old hotel, nice little town and good base because it's right next to the railway station. Was only here one night so it was alright. Just a bit rundown and could use some work in the bathrooms.

Good location. Shame about stairs. Coffee at breakfast was cold. Croissants (was not laid out but when we asked they were warm and fresh. The toilet seat needed attention and bath mat mouldy.

Reminded me of my grandparents
Lovely staff, very old building, poor on disabled access, poor on eco (single use plastics, in plastic wrap in bathroom - heated to the surface temperature of the sun before arrival) But lovely staff, really great location, beautiful setting, just a bit out of sync with the modern era

This heritage family owned property is a jewel. Close to the railway station and High Street it is ideally located for the tourist. Staff are friendly and the on-site dining room serves a herty breakfast to start the day.

Tired and worn out.
Long overdue refurb of the rooms needed. Bathroom for in a poor state of repair, however, the shower pressure was good though. The room felt unclean and very tired. The tv was old and the size of your average pc monitor. Brakfast was ok, but they struggled to get a simple poached egg on toast right. Overall disappointing, but it isn't an expensive stay.

The staff there was amazing. Getting the rooms to stay at a comfortable temperature was often a lot of work and sometimes late at night adjustments. The toilet paper was awful. It would Really have been nice to have a fridge.

Lovely settings in reception and dining area's. All team members friendly and available to help.....no glasses in room,but we didn't eat dinner,but breakfast wasn't Great,fruit salad tinned,one piece of cheese,we went for breakfast at 8.30 but more people came in after so maybe/hopefully was filled up,the container on hot buffet was very heavy to left lid.

The staff was AMAZING! Robert at the front desk was particularly helpful and really made us feel welcome. As well as Leslie another member of the staff. A lovely local place to stay and a perfect location to the train, shops and dining. We loved being able to walk the Jane Austen trail from the hotel. Approximately a 2mile pleasent walk to Austen's home.

I was given Room 1 which I now understand is a disabled room which I did not ask for and had absolutely no hot water. When I told reception in the morning I was told it was temperature controlled - the water was not even luke warm. All the booking agent could do was give me a £15 voucher but nothing from the hotel

Average but disappointing
Great for free parking, breakfast, spacious room and service. Disappointed due to bugs in the bed, spiders above the bed, single glazing not keeping heat in the room and heaters not working. These should be in working order without having to call someone.

Lovely staff. Poor hotel.
The staff were lovely. Unfortunately the hotel and room were not. The hotel is clearly in need of some investment. I paid a premium price because of the festival but did not get a premium room. The curtain rail was hanging off the wall , there was no hot water in the shower and the staff kept using the exit next to the room during the night and the early hours. The door just woke us up every time they used it.

I wish I'd packed my ear defenders!
I paid £93 for bed only, no breakfast, which I suppose is fair enough for this part of the country. The room was adequate for purpose. 2 slightly annoying things: No TV remote control and one of the bedside lights was continually flashing on and off when I flicked the switch. However the key thing that made my night unpleasant was some sort of party that was going on in the bar. Because it was a warm nighty window was open but also the external doors to the bar were open on to the car park. There was some sort of gathering or party in the bar that seemed to get its noisy zenith about 1.30am and I don't think it finished until about 3.30am. I can't be precise about the timing but the noise, laughter, stupidity and vacuous loud selfish foolishness went on into the early hours of the morning. I work all over the country, regularly staying in hotels over the last 25 years. I have never ever had such a bad night's sleep. I raised the matter with the receptionist when I checked out in the morning. She apologised and told me that they had a number of complaints and that one guest left the hotel during the night! So in summary, if you an arrogant, ignorant selfish loudmouth who wants to engage in unrestrained partying this is the place for you. If you are a person who civilised and has work to do the following day, try somewhere else.
