I work in Hexham every 3 months and struggle to find somewhere to stop within my work budget, the Coach and Horses was just right for me ,great hotel , staff really friendly and welcoming, the room and food was very good, I've only had the breakfast once when stopping here and its very good, parking can be tricky but there is and unsecured area to park across the road from the hotel ,would definitely recommend, and I will be stopping again

Current road closures make it difficult to access the hotel and parking is a fair distance. Apart from this, an excellent stay with very friendly and helpful staff. I would like to return when things are back to normal.

Fantastic hotel in the heart of hexham
We booked in for the one night and wished we were staying for more . Fantastic welcome by ian , we were shown to the room and he made sure everything was ok for us . The room was spotless with a very comfortable bed , the hotel decor was very tasteful and cosy . The evening meals we had were tasty and value for money . Our experience was made so much better by the friendly and professional staff . We will be coming back here again for a longer stay

Pleasant stay with pleasant staff.
We had a great stay, staff very friendly and welcoming. Room was roomy and clean. Well worth the price. Breakfast the first morning was great, second morning not so good, had to wait over 30 minutes found out the breakfast is cooked in sister establishment. Would have like a couple of lounge chairs somewhere to sit and have a coffee sort from bar. Would definitely stay again.

We arrived at 4-15pm approximately and the whole of the premises was closed. A very pleasant lady turned up and asked us if we were guests. She then checked and let us in and showed us our room which was very pleasant. There was no food available at The Coach and Horses so the morning meant we had to go out looking for somewhere, which we did quite easily. The room was very good value for money and I would return there.

This Bed & Breakfast, or let we say just Bed, has less than an overall okay experience for me. Aside from an okay room and bed, there was no cleaning and no breakfast at all. It's alright if you want to stay a night and have no other expectations but I would ill advise anyone for staying here for any nights more. I can only hope the situation will improve in the near future..

Couldn't initially check in as hotel locked (at 5.30 pm). Had to locate owner via asking locals. Ended up in pub over the road who contacted owner. Hotel sad, neglected. Carpets scruffy. Shower enclosure knackered. Room not tidied on day 2. We left after 2 nights as couldn't face the third night we had booked . Owner said hotel is to be refurbed into a boutique hotel, therefore we think owner has just given up. Truly awful.

Very basic to poor, not what the pictures show.
May suit some who want to save money at the expense of comfort. But basically it is poor, rubbish nearby as you walk in. Needs a major make over. Carpet in the toilet bathroom has to be a concern.

Difficult to be too harsh as the two ladies, possibly Mother and Daughter, are closing the place down. It is thought that it will be reopened as a retail outlet. General tatty feel about the place. No meals supplied; no WiFi. Disco in bar adjacent bedrooms,,

A Fawlty Towers experience
We booked 1 night bed and breakfast through Expedia. Arrived to be told "we don't do breakfast, our dining room is closed". Room was fine, but the hotel bar had no beer ( just 1 lager pump operating) and no red wine, so we had to go out for an evening meal and a drink afterwards. The girl behind the bar suggested a pub "up the road" that did serve beer and was owned by the same people, but we went to the hotel just across the road (less than 50 meters away) for food and drink which was very good. There was a disco in the bar of our hotel but our room was just far enough away that it did not disturb us. The room and bed were comfortable and the shower was good (towels seemed to be almost brand new). We heard from a local that the hotel had changed hands the night before we arrived, so we guessed that the shortages were part of the handover process. Was it fair to take customers when the advertised facilities were not available. We don't think so. Free parking was also advertised, but this is on-street parking and is only free after 5pm and before 8am, except on Sundays (we stayed the Saturday night so it was OK for us, and we managed to find somewhere to have breakfast before we left the town.

It was a 'no frills' room in need of modernising.
The Coach & Horses owners were very welcoming and had gone some way towards making the room pleasing. The bathroom could really do with being replacing. The shower was an extension of the hose from the bath taps and was fitted onto the wall to the side of the bath as opposed to end wall as is usual. I found this rather dangerous. There were nice touches like shower and hand gel being provided but no bath mat or small towels? The cold water tap on the bathroom sink did not work and the basin was cracked and so on.Like wise the mattress, although the presentation of the bed looked as though it could be very comfortable. We only saw the B&B couple once and then we didn't see them again, we just left our keys on the table and left, as requested. We felt the room lacked care in many ways and would not choose to return there again.

Good location in the middle of Hexham with free car-park close by. However, the beds were uncomfortable, the noise caused by the water heater/shower/toilet flushing was ridiculous. No-one came in to empty the bins/tidy etc and the bulb in the bedside light wasn’t even strong enough to read a book. Never again!

don't stay here unless you are desperate.
False advertising. There is no Parking, only on the street outside and that is warden patrolled and time restricted. There is no WiFi. Had to go to Whetherspoons in the town for that. Bar only opens when they feel like it. Restaurant looks to be permanently closed. Can't check-in before 4pm. As a biker I always look for somewhere with parking for the bike and WiFi to book next stop. Not the only one to fall for it as another group of bikers staying there fell for the same con. Room filthy, shower a bad joke. Mattress was a cheap and nasty foam thing on a wooden frame so slats dig into you. Milk for the tea/coffee in room was out of date and had turned to yogurt. Cups still dirty from last guest.

The Hotel was undergoing a refurbishment and no breakfast or meals were available. The Reception was the Public bar, which was not the most attractive in the world. The Debit Card reader was not working and we had to pay Cash on arriva,l and the bar maid was surly. However the room was comfortable and very good and no doubt the hotel will improve once work is complete and the management pull their act together!

Disappointing
Hotel was effectively closed apart from room lettings and noisy bar/disco on Friday and Saturday evenings. Good size room and bathroom, good towels and shower but no toiletries provided, only a dribble of hand wash. The bunk bed was comfortable but the double bed was one of the most uncomfortable we have ever slept in: we could feel the wooden slats through the too-thin mattress. former coaching inns are often in town centres so you expect some noise; this one would benefit from double glazing in the bedrooms. Avoid staying on Friday and Saturday nights.

Surprised
The owner was very friendly but on arrival I discovered that the place was mothballed during the week this time of the year. 1. Cars machine not working cash settlements only 2. No breakfast although it was included in description 3. Bar and restaurant closed midweek so no facilities on site As I said, the lady was friendly enough but I would have stayed elsewhere had I been advised of the above shortcomings on the website. I assume the £55 cash I paid included a non existent breakfast. Avoid mid week off season unless you’re happy with room only.

Disappointing hotel.
Owners did not really seem to be expecting me. The room was very run down and basic, the carpet needed hoovering. The card machine was broken,so I had to go and find a cash point to pay for the room, which was more expensive than the Travelodge I had used a week earlier. The restaurant and bar were closed during the week "out of season", despite it being the Easter holidays.

Not restful
It’s part of a pub open Fri/Sat evenings only. When they mentioned a DJ on, we were firmly assured we were in another building from the music and wouldn’t hear a thingI. Wow, what a load of tosh even the floor was shaking until after midnight. Mattresse is spring and lumpy. Couldn’t even make tea in the morning as there only was cream or carnation milk, no standard, there was no spoon anyway....just why? We didn’t pay much for it but I would gladly have paid double for a decent nights sleep. Won’t be back.

This hotel is filthy and had i not been desperate I would have not stayed at all, there were dogs running round freely, the place is covered in dog hairs, mugs in room were not useable, I dont know how it can pass a hygiene inspection.
