I rang the reception bell and a gentleman appeared enquiring if he could help me: No introduction; no welcome; no pleasantries. Upon learning my name, he found a set of keys, placed them in the door lock and told me not to worry about locking the front door. Breakfast was from 07.30am-08.50am. When I queried 08.50am, I was advised that there were only two of them (proprietors) and they had rooms to clean. Simply, this is not an issue for guests, and it should not interfere with guests. The room was reasonably spacious and clean, but the room was cold, and a touch of the radiators revealed them to be only slightly warm and just sparking into life. It was colder in the bathroom. It was -2C degrees when I arrived. The room should have been warm. Heating was switched off over night and did not re-ignite until around 06.45am. Consider how cold the room was with a -4C degree temp outside overnight and no heating inside. Breakfast was reasonable, although choice was limited from the buffet counter to (some) fruit and cereal. The cooked breakfast was enjoyable. Whilst at breakfast one guest drew the proprietor’s attention to the milk being sour. The guest was publicly rebuked by the proprietor who advised that everyone else had had the milk and that there had been no complaints, and besides the expiry date (of the milk) was the 20th. Hereford stay
We recently stayed at the Charades guest house. The room (en suite) was excellent! It had a king size bed, which was very comfortable, with lovely pillows and very clean and fresh bed linen. The room facilities were very good, with a good selection of tea and coffee, plus biscuits! The bathroom was very clean with a good size shower, with a ready supply of soap! Also, there was a good supply of fresh, clean and good quality hand and bath towels! The breakfast on offer would suit all needs, as you had a good choice of a fruit, cereal, yogurts and fruit juice etc. Also, you could choice a cooked breakfast from the menu, which was cooked to order, so very fresh and tasty! I would not hesitate to stay here again and have to say it’s one of the best rooms I’ve ever stayed in! I would fully recommend a stay here, you would not be disappointed!

A great place to stay whilst exploring Herefordshire. The room was lovely and it had everything we needed. The breakfast was amazing, we particularly enjoyed the full English. Highly recommend a stay here.

Had a lovely one night stay here. It is extremely clean, quiet and comfortable with a delicious freshly cooked breakfast in the morning. My husband especially liked all the photos, models, etc. of Titanic in the reception area.

So much potential
I arrived to an underwhelming welcome after travelling for 5 hours on public transport to get there. I was advised the room was upstairs and was handed the keys but not told how to unlock the front door. I wasn't offered any help with my suitcase either and was left to make my own way to the room. My husband was coming later in the car but I didn't need to give the car reg to them when I checked in, which was odd. Also from a safety and fire aspect, they wouldn't have known how many people were in the room, when he did arrive which isn't good. Lots of furniture in the room made it very crowded. As a result, there wasn't much surface area on the units to put anything on. The bathroom was quite small and the extractor fan wasn't very clean. There were also cobwebs in the bathroom. The shower was a good pressure with lots of hot water and overall the room was clean. The bed and pillows were quite firm and there was noise from passing vehicles outside. I am a light sleeper so I always take earplugs with me and these were helpful here. There wasn't a welcome at breakfast, barely a hello. The food was edible but not great and the decor and clutter in the dining room was too much. Also the ship memorabilia everywhere was unnecessary and cluttered. It didn't add anything to the experience or to the atmosphere. There is quite a bit of potential here but in my opinion it wasn't a great place to stay.

It was an underwhelming welcome - we were handed a key and told our room was up the stairs along the corridor. The bed on one side of our king (2 twins pushed together) was tilted to the side so it was somewhat uncomfortable sleeping. On the plus side the breakfast was good the next morning.

Wonderful luxurious B & B
This guesthouse was an excellent find for us. The owners work very hard to make your stay very comfortable. The soft furnishings and bedding were very luxurious and the thick fluffy towels were amazing. We can’t fault it. The weather was good so we made use of the little terrace outside our room to sit with an afternoon cup of tea.

A nice place with an easy walk to the city centre
Our stay was just as we expected, though on arrival we were unsure whether to ring the doorbell or to walk in. We rang the bell but should just have walked in. It is unusual to find room keys and registration forms left on a table in the hall, but it does appear to work. It was very convenient to be able to leave our car there and walk into the city centre.

Lovely location, lovely room, great breakfast
First time to Hereford, Charades is located in a very quiet area, a 5-10 walk to the station and 15-20 walk into the city centre. Our room was warm (February!), spotless, with a very comfy bed and nice towels. Lots of hot water in the shower. Nice cooked breakfast and all the common areas were decorated very well.

The room was very clean and beautifully furnished with a vey comfortable bed, chairs and well appointed bathroom. Breakfast menu included the "great english" ingredients available in various combinations and very well cooked to suit individual preferences, plus fruit, cereals, juices and yoghurts. Service is delivered personally by the owners with a genuine warmth and cheerfulness. The hotel is situated in a lovely part of Hereford and is only a 15/ 20 minute walk from the city and all its may attractions. Plenty of onsite parking with nice gardens if you care to sit out. Absolute gem.

Guest House in Hereford
Handily placed, spent the day visiting a few National Trust attractions and then needed a hotel in Hereford to wander in for an evening meal and some drinks. This guest house was just what we were looking for !
