There are Cockroaches in the room and the property charged more than what they are supposed to and claimed it as upgrade without even communicating me about the upgrade and additional charges.

The Grand Naniloa is situated directly on the coast, and we reserved a room with a balcony. The view is breathtaking, and the balcony enables us to keep the sliding door open for the majority of the day. I strongly recommend investing a bit more to secure a room with an ocean view and a balcony. While other sections of the hotel offer ocean views, the floor-to-ceiling windows do not open, preventing guests from enjoying the refreshing ocean breeze. The hotel staff are amiable and are undoubtedly one of the establishment's assets. I assigned the hotel a relatively low rating for several reasons: The hotel is quite dated, with some areas poorly maintained. The hotel is adjacent to two deserted and derelict old hotels inhabited by squatters, making it unsafe to wander around at night. One can observe burn marks and boarded-up windows on these decrepit structures. The complimentary internet service is extremely slow. The walls are very thin, which means you can hear your neighbors. The resort fee is disproportionately high considering the modest additional amenities provided by the hotel, such as the small swimming pool. It appears that many of the tourists we encountered in Hilo's popular spots had traveled from other parts of the island. I was unaware that people generally do not stay in Hilo. Now I understand why. The premier hotel in Hilo is just about a three-star establishment.

Great stay in Hilo. All the staff we interacted with were great, room had a beautiful ocean view. Loved our 5 days there. Coffee and POG juice in the lobby. The exterior of the hotel very much needs a paint job and they could use a hot tub, pool was cold and not very welcoming.

Nice hotel. Very close to town. Has live music and a bar in the lobby with a nice atmosphere. A restaurant is located in the hotel with beautiful views. I did not like there is no complimentary breakfast offered for guest, not even continental. You have to be a Diamond member for a food voucher. Parking is valet. The restaurant has a nice view but very expensive. Also, there was a $300 resort fee which isn’t disclosed until you get there. I’m told I’ll get $140 of it back after 5-7 business days once checked out. They should be more transparent about this. That plus having to pay so much for food and tip each time you need your car…dropped a few stars. Other than that, nice staff and clean rooms

Dirty room with ants, poorly cleaned, terrible manager Cindy. Wouldn’t recommend for families. Outdated, rundown property, no hot tub, view of abandoned building. Not worth the expensive price tag.

Doors and wall were scuffed up and need paint and or cleaning. Portions of the exterior need cleaning and paint. Dining was extremely limited. No dining room. Space leased to restaurant operator charged excessively and did not have a liquor license. You also sent us into Kona, a two hour drive in spite of their being an airport nearby. I don't know what you were thinking.

We loved how relaxing it was. You could hear the waves crashing in the rocks from your window, it was amazing! The restaurant had delicious food, the lobby bar had a wonderful vibe and the service was incredibly friendly and helpful! We had a great time!

Some reviews i read said the property was dated etc. This is not what I found. Valet parking was great. Guest laundry a plus. We didn’t eat here so I have no opinion on this. I would recommend this hotel

You should've notify customers about 400$ hold before check-in; and about the construction on the hotel side. The last days were super noisy and it was hard to get a walk because of all the mess around.

Overall we loved this property. Our ocean front room with lanai was perfect for whale watching. Staff were very friendly. My one negative is the lack of eating options. Hula Hula, the only on property restaurant, has a very limited menu and (even by Hawaiian standards) is on the high side. $32 for a double Pattie burger and fries.

When there is no competition, this what you get: above average price in below average accommodations. The room was small, without the balcony it would far too small. Combined with an extra large bath for the disabled, not what we’d expected for the price. Resort fee included the valet parking, and without a rental car, we are unclear about why you’d pay this (and there was no option given). The other guests for very nice, as you’d expect at this pricey resort. I needed to use “office center” which was a single PC with neither Internet access or a UPC port. It was connected to two printers, neither of which was in use the 5 days of our stay. We are very thankful we were able to secure a rental car, as it is a must with this hotel choice. The young men & women doing the valet parking are helpful, and energetic. The desk help were hired due to their language skills, and unclear their other qualifications. Hula, and native dance, was available by video in the lobby, as was very loud music in the evenings—as you’d would prefer to venture into Hilo for finer dining. The attitude is “nickel and dime,” when you expect more than plastic cups, worn hallway carpets, and towels what you’d find in a high school locker room. Beyond the Resort Charge, there will be Rm General Excise Tax, a Rm Transient ACC Tax, a HC TAT,😐 In sum, you’ll probably end up here on your first stay in Hilo, but not on a return trip.

I like that they have vallet parking included as part of resort fees. Overall, it is a very dated property and needs a lot of maintenance. We tried the one restaurant they have for breakfast and it was really bad. I am a Hilton Elite member and always prefer to stay in Hilton properties, but I wouldn't stay here again.

False advertising. We paid extra for an ocean front room, but we are mostly looking the rest of the hotel and the pool/construction. We specifically wanted an ocean front room so we wouldn’t have booked this hotel/room if we knew the room view would be like this. At least they could have flipped the room and put the bed on the opposite wall so you see the partial ocean. If you’re going to have ocean front rooms that face the rest of the hotel, at least paint the exterior so it doesn’t look so run down and trashy. Very disappointing.

AC did not work in our room. We were told by several other guests and by the maintenance guys that the hotel has been having AC issues for weeks. We were never told of any AC problems by the front desk before we checked in.
