Pocket Guide: Bishop's Stortford Hatfield Forest Hotels

The county of Hertfordshire is famous for its vast tracts of woodland, gently rolling hills and equable climate. Visitors come here all year round from nearby London and the surrounding regions to visit its many castles and stately homes such as Hatfield House, and there are plenty of outdoor activities on offer too. Hatfield Forest is one of the most important natural features of this varied landscape, and you can explore its many attractions whilst staying at a Hertfordshire hotel or guesthouse in the region.

Hertfordshire Hotels for a Day Out at Hatfield Forest

Hatfield Forest is immensely important as an area of great ecological and historical significance. When you come here for the afternoon from your Hertfordshire hotel base the Shell House is a particularly good spot for a family picnic. It was built back in the 18th Century and is intriguingly decorated, as the name suggests, with shells and flints from the surrounding area. There are excellent walks around the area using the local chases and rides, and the big lake in the centre of the park provides excellent coarse fishing for experienced anglers. The National Trust owns and manages the forest so it's in good hands, and has been ever since 1924 when it was set up as an independent conservation charity.

Hatfield Forest from Hertfordshire Hotels

If you're looking for a destination for the day from your Hertfordshire hotel or B&B that will provide interest and excitement for the whole family, then Hatfield Forest is the perfect choice. As well as being able to explore an important conservation area on foot you'll also have access to a range of good facilities for the perfect day out in the open. The forest has lots of picnic tables spread out along the lakeside and between the trees, and also a good café for refreshments. With WCs, a shop and the historic Shell House at your disposal, you'll have everything in place for a brilliant day out. It's easy to find Hatfield Forest from your local Hertfordshire hotel or guesthouse, and the whole family will enjoy having a picnic here in the open air.
