Weekend break

Posted 01-Aug-2017
Stayed in room a classic room, view of front grounds. Nice decor in keeping with the house period. The bed was comfortable, but, squeaked due to the wooden base, each time you moved. It had clumbsy wooden blocks behind the headboard (dusty) which did not help much. There lamp next to the bed had a blown bulb, I feel detail like that should be checked. There is a large sash window, which thankfully let some fresh air into the room, there is no air conditioning, so, I imagine it can get rather warm on a hot night. You should note that room 109 is above the entrance, so, you may endure noise from late night revellers. Additionally, the gallery area outside the room is in constant use for wedding photography, so the weekends do not offer peace and quiet, the continuing chatter ruined what would have been a leisurely Sunday morning, I found this inconsiderate and irritating. There was a decent tea, coffee tray & mini fridge. The rain shower was adequate, stable temperature. There is also a separate shower attachment. Some toiletries, bathrobe and slippers are provided. The breakfast. Not impressive. We had an in room breakfast. The fruit salad consisted of under ripe, bland melon pieces, 2 grapes, 1 small chunk if pineapple; poor quality, disappointing. The scrambled egg (no choice of fried,or poached, on the menu) was slightly under par. The tea was stewed, a teapot of boiled water with a separate teabag would have been better. The quality did not warrant the price.

Great hotel, quiet, really nice room, comfy bed, great shower. Food choice for dinner could be a better range / more options.

Weekend away in beautiful country retreat

Posted 10-Jul-2017
Pros: Everything
Cons: Perhaps better water pressure in the executive rooms.
Location: The location is set amongst field and near an idyllic village. It is close to bishops stortford and saffron walden both have a good range of shops.
I spent a wonderful weekend away at this beautiful hotel. Every thing from the staff to the room, that excellent food in the grill restaurant, to the Eden spa, where I booked the 2 hour spa access and the deep tissue massage, made this trip relaxing and special. Can't wait for our next visit.

Beautiful hotel with amazing surroundings and superb rooms, only downside was no air conditioning which on the hottest day of the year wasn't comfortable.

Pros: everything, it really was stunning, in a stunning area. It was just the perfect blend to create peace and comfort.
a wonderful, relaxing long weekend with my husband at Down Hall Country House. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, the accommodation was very good value for money.........the other stuff was a bit pricey but to be expected really. We would happily stay there anytime.

Countryside

It was a very good trip, a nice getaway from the city. Loved seeing all the weddings going on. Services was average, understandable because of the weddings. My partner burned herself as the towel heating rack was incredibly hot (no way to control the heat), we complained and the manager said its not his fault and nothing could be done. He simply turned it off an left us.
