Pocket Guide: Design Hotel Hotels in Hannover

Hannover might be famous for its historic city centre, but it is also packed with public art and contemporary galleries, from the colourful ‘Nanas’ scultptures on the banks of the Leine to the cutting-edge work on show at Kestnergesellschaft. Whether you’re a committed art lover or just want a touch of style from your accommodation, search Expedia to discover a range of superb design hotels in Hannover.

Hotels near Hannover’s Contemporary Arts Scene

Book a design hotel in Hannover city centre to be close to some of the city’s best modern art galleries. The Sprengel Museum is a must-see – situated beside the Maschsee lake, this impressive modernist building’s collection includes work by Emil Nolde, Max Beckmann, Paul Klee and Hannover-born Kurt Schwitters. There’s more contemporary work on show at KUBUS and at Kunstverein Hannover, both in the heart of the city. For something a little different, try the Wilhelm Busch Museum of Caricature, which shows political and satirical cartoons, children’s illustration and graphic design.

Fashion and Design Shopping in Hannover

Hannover’s main shopping streets are Georgstrasse, Bahnhofstrasse and Karmarschstrasse, which meet at Kropcke square. You’ll find a number of big fashion and tech brands here, as well as some large department stores. For high-end boutique shopping, head to smaller arcades such as Kropcke Passage and Galerie Luise. And don’t forget to drop into gift shops while gallery-hopping – they’re great places to pick up the latest German design books and magazines.

Days Out in Hannover’s Museums and Gardens

Delve into Hannover’s roots at the Historisches Museum, which whose exhibits trace the city’s evolution from medieval market town to modern metropolis. The Landesmuseum has a more wide-ranging brief, with collections that span natural history, ethnography, archaeology and art. For a different take on design, visit Hannover’s Royal Herrenhausen Gardens complex. The central Grosser Garten is a classic formal garden, with groomed lawns, geometric beds and elegant statues. The neighbouring Georgengarten, by contrast, imitates a rolling English landscape.
