Every Expense Spared

Posted 27-May-2016
Pros: Nothing
Cons: The staff were indifferent. The room was a joke.
Location: Highfield Park is nearer to Heckfield than Hook, and a stone's throw from Wellington Park. Its within reach of Reading, Basingstoke and Camberley.
Want to stay in a hotel room where every expense has been spared? For £90 a night? Out of season? Then just ask for Room 15, Fir Tree Court. It's the kind of room that would easily embarrass a 2-Star hotelier. Once you've made the mistake of parking your car in the car park and dragging your luggage down to Reception, you'll have the joy of dragging it all the way back because Fir Tree Court is an out building next to the car park that might once have been a stable block. Room 15, originally billed to me as Room 115 (a receptionists’ s in-joke, maybe?) bears no resemblance whatsoever to any of the De Vere web site photos. There's just enough space for a double bed and a small corner desk unit. Instead of a wardrobe, you have use of an under-the-stairs cupboard that might have impressed Harry Potter. Even so, you can't open the door fully because the bed is in the way. Instead of a comfortable easy chair to sit on (as per web site photos) you get to sit on a dining room chair probably left over from a previous refit. And the TV? Channels 1 to 5 are yours to enjoy over and over again. For entertainment, look no further than the bathroom shower unit whose workings will confound you for several minutes. If anyone offers you room 15, walk away. Better still, demand to be moved to a room that corresponds with de Vere’s web site photos. Even better, demand your money back and leave. Highfield no doubt has its admirers but one might easily be forgiven for suspecting that its low

Highfield

Have stayed Highfield before, the room was the attic room and kept knocking head on sloping roof. Bed needs to be adjusted. The extractor fan was slightly too loud. Beautiful surroundings and friendly staff.

Not a great stay

Internet - AWFUL. I'd go as far as to say "inappropriate" - this is supposed to be a venue hosting training etc for companies Bath plug wouldn't release so the shower/bath wouldn't drain - made it feel unsanitary. The rooms are small but not terrible. The breakfast was no where near the standard of the De Vere Warbrook

Nice Hotel Room, could be better

Posted 24-Jan-2016 on Hotels
Lovely main building and grounds, room was slightly disappointing for the money. Single room very small. Shower head blocked, slight damp in room, extract fan not working. Did let staff know, nothing done, and no feedback received

Dont vere

Tiny room, noise from adjacent rooms was dreadful, apparently no alternative rooms where available, staff could not care less. Wont stay there again. These De Vere venue hotels are hit and miss.....I'll be giving them a miss.

Worth a look

Countryside setting was quiet and peaceful but very quick to get into Wokingham/Reading for work etc. Room was comfortable and decently equipped though not totally sound isolated from the room above - not a problem really but some may find this offputting.
