"Stayed overnight as we were using spa"
Arrived 6 p.m Directed to room bit confusing to find but it was very pleasant. Had o go out of main building through an open covered walkway. Warm and cosy. Beds very comfortable. Were able to open window. Had a meal in restaurant - good choices and not rushed. Breakfast was excellent lots of choices.

"Great staff makes for a great stay!"
The front desk and concierge staff were some of the most helpful people I have ever encountered at a hotel. Matt, one of the concierge staff, was exceptional. He never saw a problem, just worked on finding a quick and effective solution. He always had a smile and was willing to help. This same attitude was true for everyone we worked with at the font desk.

"Comfortable hotel right in the city centre"
The Mercure Dolphin is ideally located right in the centre of Southampton, which was great for me as I was attending a rock concert at 1865 club just a few minutes walk away. For anybody wanting easy, comfortable, basic accomodation in the centre, then I would definitely recommend this hotel. Unfortunately there are no leisure facilities here, just the restaurant and bar. Free wi-fi throughout, 24 hours reception. The room we had was a standard twin room which was very comfortable, teas and coffee was provided, only downside was that there was no fridge in the room to keep own food in and The Novotel not far away has fridges in the rooms (also part of Accor Hotels). The bathroom light was very dim and should've been brighter, but besides that the room was very quiet and the staff made my request for a quiet room at end of the corridor. If you don't want to spend almost £14 on breakfast in the hotel, there are so many cafes and restaurants close by who do a much cheaper and good breakfast and a Lidl budget supermarket just a stroll away. Buses to and from Southampton Central train station leave from just opposite the hotel. I would definitely choose to stay in this hotel again.

"Disappointing restaurant"
This was set up as a treat for a friend: nice hotel, nice meal, pleasant room, NICE. But problems from the start. The double room was a Twin which required a long walk to reception to complain. It was eventually put right. We had to book a table upon arrival as we were told the restaurant was almost fully booked, but it was half empty when we ate. The service was poor. The food was especially disappointing with VERY small portions on the starters and the Main was a joke. It would have only half filled a side-plate with tiny chicken breast, two very small baby carrots, half a small mushroom and two bites of potato. The food tasted great but was VERY expensive for the small portions. Afterwards, coffee in the lounge was served after a VERY long wait by a surly lady who didn't smile. This is a not friendly hotel which seems to employ a lot of people with difficulty speaking understandable English.

"Luxury and personal touches galore"
We stayed in a triple room, there were three of us to celebrate our friends 40th birthday. Gorgeous and spacious accommodation! The beds were comfortable and we had loads of room for all our things. The bathroom was huge! We ate from the bistro meal just in the bar as we wanted a relaxed evening meal. We all had the steak which was stunning and great side dishes. Lovely wine and great ambience. In the morning, we went to the spa and had a swim and a steam before setting off home.
