Great hotel but a few problems
Location, the hotel and staff were great however the first night, the temperature in the room was approx 26oC due to fault with the heating, so we had to sleep with the windows open. Reported to reception, but they couldn't do anything until maintenance came in the morning. The following day, there was no hot water for the shower and then this happened every morning until we left. Occasionally it came through, so we had to have a very quick shower.

Good for skiing
Ustadelen consists of several stand alone buildings of a variety of different sized apartments and I assume some hotel rooms. As such if not in the main building where reception is it becomes very difficult to communicate any problems or issues. The apartments are not equipped with an internal phone to allow direct contact with reception which adds to the difficulty. We had booked the “higher grade” apartment for our family. And it was exactly as per photos. What the photos don’t show are the bedrooms which were incredibly small with very small single beds. But on the whole this didn’t bother us. The kitchen is equipped with everything needed for a short stay to cook simple breakfasts and meals. The most disappointing thing was the lack of ability to control heating directly. Even though there were thermostats for each room/ area, these turned out to not control the system which was controlled remotely by main office. The second frustration was the location directly on the train line, constant shipping freights meant interrupted sleep at night as sound proofing wasn’t adequate to prevent the noise. Access to pool was paid which again isn’t a problem EXCEPT the pool was cold and the sauna not working…so felt it was very poor for a service that you pay for. The restaurant was closed for the duration of our visit which meant we couldn’t have served breakfast any day (a shame). Ski bus stopped exactly opposite the building so was convenient in that respect.

we stayed at this hotel 3 years ago and had a good experience so we decided to come back again - this time we booked an apartment (there was no rooms available at the hotel). Unfortunately, this time the experience was totally different. we we're greeted by super indifferent receptionist that told us that the room comes without any towels and linen so we had to rent 2 sets for 200NOK, and this, I must say, surprised my a lot as I travel a lot and it's the first time I encountere such phenomenon... the apartment seemed nice at first, as described, but later we found out dirty stains on the sofa, the entire floor was dusty. noise isolation was poor so we heard a lot of noise from nearby noisy kids... and worse of all the heating system barely warmed the cold room (-7C outside). the next day we complained to the receptionist, another colleague this time, about the noise and faulty heating and he said that there's nothing he can do about it but he offered another apartment - a better, bigger one. and guess what?! the apartment was even colder, without a proper working heating system... we didn’t bother to complain once again since nothing will change...

Interesting. I loved it but a few others thought it was more like camping. Bathrooms huge. Bedrooms tiny. Only negative to the rooms was the beds are too close to the wall. Making your own beds with the linens was awkward but easy. Again…I loved it. Refrigerator. Full kitchen, space was plentiful.

Excellent apartments in easy reach of ski hills and ski shuttle. Well laid out and good kitchen for self catering. Not so close to centre of Geilo but great for a family ski trip

If you are going to be in the area for more then one night, this is your place! Clean, comfy, amazing service and like having your own apartment. Wish i could have stayed longer. PS, i wish i could have stayed at the hotel for longer. Their beds are like sleeping on clouds!

Excellent value for money
I stayed one night and had to leave around 5 in the morning, so I missed the breakfast. The checkin process was painless and I was given an apartment for the night. It had lots of space, was modern, clean, with a fully equipped kitchen, and with a great view from the balcony. The hotel is a located 1km to the west of Geilo centre; no problem for me since I had a car. There was ample, free parking space. Free wireless Internet included for all my devices, reasonably good bandwidth. All in all a very good stay and good value for money.

Nice hotel and would stay again
Hotel is very nice. I travel often and feel a lot of the other reviews may be a bit harsh. Yes the hotel is quite dated but all else is very good. Views were excellent, staff were very friendly, dinner was great, and sauna/fitness room were good also. Only cons was that the breakfast was not nearly as good as other hotels in Norway and the weight room can use some tidying and racks to organize things (and perhaps a treadmill). Because the hotel is a bit dated, there is some noise you hear in your room but this really shouldn't be more than a minor inconvenience. I am a light sleeper and didn't have a problem.

Good all round hotel
The room was comfortable enough. The only thing missing was tea and coffee making facilities in the room so we took our own. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The sauna and pool very good. Plentiful breakfast buffet!

Quality of the room and hotel is fine, the room is comfortable and the breakfast as standard. It is a shame they have built a new block as there is no longer any view of the slopes from at least one side of the building. We investigated the pool, it was ok but very small, and the sauna wasn't on. Hotel is less than a kilometre from the station.

Ustedalen hotel
Rooms were comfortable, clean and warm. They were a little on the small side, but sufficient. Was impressed with the water temperature of the shower, although it did take quite some time to warm up. The breakfast provided was good. Staff were helpful. I would suggest its best to have a car if you stay at this hotel, particularly in winter as the walk to the centre can be icy making it difficult in the evening, meaning you're somewhat confined. Overall the stay was pleasant.

Ustedalen Hotell - A nice place to stop
We stayed here as a halfway point between Bergen and Oslo. I enjoyed the hotel, I thought it had a very cozy feel to it. Our room had a beautiful view, and the pool was a nice option as well. At dinnertime, we went down to the restaurant and a table was reserved for us, which was a nice touch. The buffet was decently priced and the food was delicious. Afterwards, a lot of the guests spent time in the lounge and it was a good time. I wish they had offered a complementary breakfast. The Geilo area offers a lot of activity options for people of all ages so this is a great place to stop. Overall, I would recommend Ustedalen Hotell.

Appartementenhotel op mooie locatie net buiten de kern van Geilo. Skibus stopt om de hoek. Let op: bedlinnen en handdoeken niet inclusief. Zelf bed opmaken en geen dagelijkse service. Tegenwoordig ook betalen voor de gym en zwembad. Toegewezen kamer was dit jaar niet schoon en zonder gordijnen: kregen gelukkig een upgrade. Uiteindelijk toch een fijn verblijf gehad in de sneeuw (-30’C)

Vi reiste som familie på tre og synes presentasjonen og bildene av leiligheten var innbydende. Selve leiligheten med stue, bad, kjøkken og bad var bra og som forespeilet. Sigarettrester på terrassen, dårlige og manglende utstyr på kjøkken var dessverre en stor skuffelse. Dessverre var kvaliteten på sengene den største skuffelsen. Vi sov dårlig og kjente fjærene i madrassen. Man burde forvente en viss kvalitet på senger i en slik leilighet, både med tanke på kvaliteter ellers og på prisen som betaløes for en slik overnatting. Leiligheten eies av en privatperson, så hotellet kunne dessverre ikke gjøre noe med sengene. Hotellet får ros for å forsøke å hjelpe men synesde burde ha opplyst om dette ved bestilling og redusert prisen.
