Basic accommodation in an old apartment
There is no need to stay here unless you really need to be in the centre of Guayaquil, which is not particularly pleasant. It is rather dirty, noisy and a bustling commercial area. Although the Malecon 2000 is only 6 blocks away, you can also stay close to it in a nicer area. The building is old and the B&B, which is a converted apartment, is also old. The rooms are basic and due to the age of everything, it is difficult to tell if things are clean or not. The bathroom certainly was not, as the shower curtain was mouldy and had bits of stuff stuck to it. There was hair in the sink. Also the AC barely worked and the temperature was only bearable after I'd left it on for a few hours. The bed was comfortable enough and the receptionist was welcoming. I would not stay here again, though, as for $32 there seemed to be plenty of better options.

Response from Casa de Romero on 12 Jan 2020
We are quite surprised by the comment of this guest, because he behaved very kindly at breakfast and did not complain about anything, he seemed very happy and repeated several cups of coffee and ate all the fruit eggs and the rest. We have checked nos the bathroom again to see what it said about the curtains which is not true. If in the center of Guayaquil it is normal to find old buildings but our establishment is renovated, we have changed floors and bathrooms and we are very cautious with cleanliness and good service.

The reception/breakfast area is nice and clean and open. The room was a good size. The shower was pretty bad, it has no power and flicks between hot and cold but mainly cold. The air conditioning unit is working but a bit of a mess, it occasionally drips water and rattles. With some attention this place would be great but there's a lot of little problems they could easily fix. Even knowing Guayaquil this place was difficult to find, some directions and or better signage would be helpful and a WhatsApp contact number for tourists as I walked around outside for a while unable to find it or contact the reception.

Perfect area as easy to walk to places and has great views over the city. Staff were helpful and friendly, providing me with maps and taxis, etc. Room was large and comfy and tv worked (which doesn’t always happen) Would stay again

Service was great - very accommodating host. Didn't realize that the room was in a private home so that was a bit surprising. A little farther to airport than expected but an inexpensive hotel ride. Good wifi

Simple but totally comfortable
I arrived around Midnight and the taxi took me to City Center. There is a night call button that the taxi driver pushed for me and he waited until someone came down to fetch me. The people are very nice. The room was clean and had a patio that looked out on the city. Accommodations are very simple but totally adequate. I used a shared bathroom, but no one else seemed to use it. They served me homemade breakfast, toast, butter, jam, eggs, coffee and juice. It was very good. They even called a taxi for me to get back to the airport, as I was only there for an overnight stop over. I would go back again!

Nice quiet hostel near waterfront
Overall a pleasant stay here. Our bus arrived 7 hours later than expected and the hostel was fine with our 2am arrival. The room was tidy, air conditioned and it felt like a quiet place. The staff were very helpful with ordering a taxi and the breakfast was fine. Location is good as so close to walk to las Penas and the waterfront and supermarket across the road not that you can use the kitchen to cook food. Great place if you want some quiet time. Only $4 to bus station and $5 to airport in a taxi.

Basic hotel, good value for your dollar.
I was only staying one night. I arrived late in the evening and, in advance, I had arranged through the hotel to have a taxi pick me up at the airport. This is likely the best option if you don't know Guayaquil or the hotel as the hotel is not easy to identify from the outside. It's a bit of an odd set-up -- having the 3rd and 7th floors in, what is otherwise, an office building. The entrance is locked at night. The taxi driver obviously called to let the staff member know that we were on route to the hotel as someone was waiting for me upon my arrival. I was shown to my room on the 3rd floor and also shown the dining area on the 7th floor where there is a fridge with water and other drinks including beer, offered on the 'honour' system. My room had a balcony which overlooked the main street; there was a bit of traffic noise but I did not find it too bad. I had a private bath (there are also rooms with shared bathrooms so you have to make sure you state what you want when you book). There were three beds in the room -- but I was charged only the single rate. A basic breakfast was included -- eggs cooked as you wish, toast, juice and tea or coffee (2nds not a problem). It's not Holiday or Hampton Inn but a good, less costly option.

Will go back.
Arrived in Guayaquil & spent 1 full day before our Peru trip. Even though we had booked a different hotel for our return to Guayas, that hotel didn't have our room. We called Casa de Romero and luckily Casa de Romero was about to accommodate us for the remainder of our trip. Staff was very nice & helpful, they went above and beyond in being accommodating to our needs. Loved the balcony & that it. Only drawback was traffic noise, but that is out of their control. Would definitely go back.

So Nice I Stayed Twice
Booked this hostel as bookends. Since my first experience, staying 4 nights was pleasant, I looked forward to returning for 1 more night in Guayaquil. The hostel uses a reliable taxi service for airport transfers, I highly recommend. The staff is wonderful, making sure you are taken care of and very friendly. Just be sure to bring earplugs as its on a busy street and Ecuadorians like their car horns.

Comfortable stay
This was my first time staying at a hostel and it was wonderful. The rooms are big, comfortable and clean with strong Wifi in common area. Staff is friendly and helpful. The location is in a busy downtown area, great for sight-seeing. Be aware though that this is a noisy area, all times of day, but I believe that it is just the way this city is. Car horns honking and garbage trucks are a all night disturbance. Bring earplugs they help. There is a supermarket across the street, a pastry shop next door, and a ATM one block down.

My biggest surprise was the enthusiasm of the employees. Very nice and strong (six large suitcases). You read about the noise of downtown, but I was asleep by 10pm with background traffic that was not excessive.

If you've never been to Guayaquil, I highly recommend using the taxi service they provide. It makes things so much easier. The space was nice and surprisingly large. The room was on the third flood, and they streets below are incredibly noisy all night long, even for this city dweller. Make sure to bring ear plugs and you'll be a happy camper.

Good stop for transit
We arrived in Guayaquil at 11pm so we wanted a nice and cheap place to stay before leaving for Cuenca the next morning. The hotel is close to the Malecon and it is easy to go to the major bus station with the city bus. Since you don't want to stay too long in Guayaquil, you don't want to stay too long at Casa de Romero neither.

Clean hotel and attentive staff. Nice girls help checked me in and organise taxi for early morning flight the next day. Unfortunately missed out on the cooked breakfast as very early morning flight but the nice boy let me use kitchen for toast jam coffee etc at 4am. Noisy at night however with boy on reception watching film very loudly just down the corridor, did not sleep well with the street noise too. Good location near Malecon however. Perhaps bit overpriced for service received.

The location of the hotel is perfect. You are in walking distance of the lizard park, the pear and the old part of the city. The ride from the hotel only cost 5 dollars and is about 10 minutes. I had a big room with a clean bathroom and balcony. The balcony was over a very busy street, so it was pretty noisy during the night.

A backpackers place
The rooms were adequate. The breakfast was good. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately construction was ongoing outside our window on the street that kept going well after midnight. Then the traffic in the morning with horn honking is a bit too much. The price is right and the staff was very helpful, but we would not stay there again. For others this could be a good place to stay.

Casa Romero - great budget place downtown
Friendly staff, good breakfast, good recommendations. If you need a no-frills stay, the beds are firm yet comfortable, bathrooms are clean, they have wifi. The neigborhood is a bit ordinary, but very close to the riverfront, and the cathedral. A cab ride cost 5 usd from the airport. Good place.
