Great being ab,e to hear the waves.

Posted 26-May-2017
Pros: The view from the top story room delightful. Sea and grounds. Dinner at the restaurant very good also.
Cons: Kitchen beginning to look a bit dated.
Location: A great beach to walk on.
A very quiet peaceful stay.we arrived late afternoon, and enjoyed a cup of tea while looking at the view, before dinner. The weather was good so saw the sun setting into the sea.

Great location - right on the beach. Checking in was not welcoming. No direction on where to park. No assistance with luggage - there were steps to navigate. The room was very average. The room was stuffy and you could not open windows due to sand flies. TV reception was bad. Dinner was booked for a special occasion; there was no recognition of the special event. The waiter was terrible, he had no knowledge of the food or wine menu. The cocktails ordered were terrible. The good was fine, and was served nice and hot. The bill at the end of the meal was incorrect. Checking out was a nightmare. The person on the front desk showed no customer skills. It took half an hour to sort out the bill from the previous night's dinner. Several hours after leaving the hotel I was contacted by mobile to say that the price charged to my credit card was incorrect - a hotel error.

Nice hotel but a bit noisy

Posted 08-May-2017
Stayed in a downstairs room ( last room left due to a tour group in). A late arrival in the room above made lots noise on the wooden floor above. They also left early. Noisy again. Avoid the downstairs rooms, if possible.

A great location

Within walking distance of the pancake rocks. Spacious rooms, set in a bush, close to the beach. Some rooms close to the road may have some road noise though the road is relatively quiet at night.

Really nice eco-suite

Posted 01-Apr-2017
It's pretty much the only game in town, but the eco-suites across the main road are very nice. I had a spacious room with nice chairs and a desk and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom had a roll-in shower, so plenty of room. The sink was very close to the toilet, so someone with long legs might have issues, or someone who didn't maneuver well. The kitchenette had a small refrigerator and microwave plus utensils. I was glad I brought my own food to prepare. It was a very comfortable place for a night and I could easily hear the surf from the little lanai outside my room. The sunset is also right there, but the darn biting sandflies kept me inside. I was on the ground floor and still had to navigate several stairs, which were winding. If I came back, I'd ask for a second level. The same amount of stairs but straight up and there's nobody walking above you. Drive up or walk to the park to see the pancake rocks and blowholes. The blowhole performs better at high tide and with strong surf. There are some pancake rocks at the beach just in front of the hotel as well.

ECO Suite was a very nice room well built into the hillside. Weka bird visits to the porch added some nice flavor. On property washer and dryer worked well.

Lovely setting

Posted 10-Feb-2017
Pros: Lovely design of rooms and beautiful landscaping in gorgeous beach setting.
Cons: Some screens had small gaps that can let in sandflies. Breakfast buffet and coffee need improving and repricing.
Location: Lots of good walks and other activities nearby, and stunning scenery everywhere.
Good view from upper rooms (reception staff kindly shifted us from a garden view to sea view). Accommodation across road gets some traffic noise, but the road isn't busy overnight. Excellent dinners at the restaurant. However, breakfast is very overpriced, the hot buffet is disappointing, and the coffee is terrible (get a machine that uses fresh beans!). Staff were all helpful and friendly.
