    • Liked: Cleanliness

The room was lovely. The evening meal was satisfactory. The cooked full breakfast was poor, but the scrambled eggs were lovely. Service was not very good. On checking out the reception staff did not even make eye contact and watched me struggle to get my case through the partially bolted door, which I had to unlock myself. ncidentally, the fire exit in the dining room had a bolt on it. I am not sure that is legal.e

    The greatness of The Garth

We waited a bit late to reserve a hotel in the Speyside whiskey trail area. Most accommodations were completely booked, so we selected The Garth primarily for its proximity to Aberlour and because it had rooms available. We are so thankful that The Garth had rooms! First, the staff here is inrivaled in their friendliness. They had many of the answers and recommendations we wanted, and when they didn't, they knew where to send us for a proper answer. The same can be said for everyone we met in the town of Grantown-on-Speyside, truth be told. It's a small town and trying to get a bite to eat without a reservation was a bit of a challenge at peak dinner time, but we wouldn't have traded our time here for the conveniences of Aviemore or the scotch-on-your-doorstep a bit further north. The restaurant at The Garth gave us a proper filling breakfast to start every morning, and the dinners in the restaurant were savory as well! Most of the time, we hung out in the bar asking for more whiskey recommendations and having a bit of a laugh with everyone who was around. I felt so lucky to have stayed here, I just can't express it adequately. Our room was spacious and very tidy. The bed was comfortable, and the shower had excellent water pressure. In short, we were lacking in nothing, and received so much more than were promised.
