Nice rooms a lot of kinks

Posted 18-Aug-2015
In general, it is a good place, I will return when I come to the area again. The room is large. Common area is inviting and pleasant. There is not enough lighting in the room. In the evening, common area lobby does not have sufficient lighting. Bath room sink counter is very small. It is about the size of a budget hotel Facility has no AC. In a warm and humid afternoon. I wish they had AC. It does cool off in the evening to say you do not red AC. Facility does require you to take off your shoes when inside. You need to climb two floors to get to your room from parking lot Provided breakfast does not have meat. For their price range, I would expected it. During our stay, microwave did not work one morning. The second morning, toaster did not work, both were fixed later in the day. Beds had down/feather blanket and cushion. The rough texture of feather bed cushion is a minor annoyance/discomfort. I wish they took it out.

I was very quiet and relaxing, far away from busy highways, roads and shopping centres.

Less than expected

Posted 03-Sep-2014 on Hotels
This accommodation is more B&B than a hotel. Firstly we were required to remove shoes in the foyer and dirty, used scuffs were on offer if you chose not to go barefoot whilst indoors. The manager described how friendly his clientele are but people we encountered were less so. Our room lacked fresh towels, cake of soap; the step up into / out of bath was too high for the average person making a dangerous exit when wet after a shower. The bath edge was sharp and my wife injured her knee on it. Breakfast - crockery was both chipped and unclean, tongs not provided and unrelated patrons accessed breads and cereals with bare hands, food hygiene is not a priority of this management. Value for money poor. The Winston is not representative of Kicking Horse, a resort which is good value. I would not recommend the Winston.

Nothing special, but it's fine.

Couldn't get the bath hot water to make it to the shower head. That kind of totally sucks.

Superb location

A wonderfully comfortable place to stay, and a great base to explore the surrounding countryside. Cosy and with a great welcoming walk-in shower to freshen up.

Cozy mountain lodge in relaxing setting

Posted 19-Aug-2014
Location: The ski lift is nearby that takes you to the top of the mountain.
Our room has a mountain view. The bed is very comfortable and food at the pub is very tasty. The chipmunks are around and made us feel close to the nature.

Fantastic property but expensive

Posted 13-Jan-2014 on Hotels
The Winston is a beautiful homely property, breakfast is great as well as having the Saloon for dinner. Just a short walk to the slopes, it's very peaceful and quiet too. We stayed high season from Boxing Day so rate was very expensive.

Great place to get away

Posted 06-Sep-2013
Pros: That it was away from the town site (quiet).
Cons: Nothing
Location: Gondola, hiking, biking, walking, bear refuge
If you are looking for a charming, quiet, country style lodge, this is it. We spent a few days here and found it to be relaxing, down to earth and comfortable. Upgrade to the jacuzzi suite if you can. The environment of the place was very friendly and it really did feel like being at home. You definitely need a car while staying here because Golden is a 15 min drive down the hill. However, you will not need to go there too often as there is a general store a few mins walk away that has pretty much everything you would need.

Could be perfect

Posted 09-Aug-2013 on Hotels
Beautiful surroundings, beautiful lodge but we couldn't get a really hot shower in the morning. The Internet connection was very spotty. The lobby is up a flight of stairs - hard to carry heavy bags up 12 stairs. These may seem like picky things but for the price of a night's stay shouldn't be issues.
