Once a beautiful historic stately home
E-mails with booking staff were dealt with promptly and well - all that we had asked for happened.
Our room was wonderful, in historic part of the hotel, with great views over green areas. Bathroom recently refurbished and it was wonderful with the exception mentioned below. We loved the idea of having a trouser press, although we did not use it!
Breakfast was great, although as others have commented, getting seated in a timely manner was sometimes a problem. Staff need to have the breakfast set out before breakfast time starts so that they can then attend to guests. Selection of food was wonderful and it was beautifully cooked. View from dining room was wonderful.
Dinner was also very pleasant. The food was beautifully cooked although we felt more vegetables would provide more balanced meals. Wait staff were very helpful.
Flushing the toilet was a challenge. If you have Herculean strength, you may succeed in getting the toilet to flush on your first try. Otherwise, be prepared for multiple attempts and to spend lots of time in the bathroom. The flush mechanism was the problem - the toilet was equally difficult to flush whether the cistern was full or partially full. Unfortunately we were told that maintenance staff had said the water pressure was the problem and so the owners had said that repair would have to wait for a major refurbishment. Replacing flush mechanisms is needed and could be done without any other work being needed.
