Handy for centre of Cheltenham
January 2017- This hotel is undergoing a refurbishment and reminded us of Fawlty Towers!
We booked for our anniversary - a special treat as the children were with grandparents.
There was no mention of the refurb on any of the bookings websites, maybe we should have guessed by the low price available!
On the positive side, our room had been refurbished and was great for the price, although a 10 minute walk from Reception down a very long and very cold corridoor.
Breakfast was great and there was a lovely lady who looked after us each morning.
The gym was fantastic, although unmanned. The spa facilities were good though disappointing not to have more chairs or sunloungers.
On the negative side, dinner in the main restaurant was bizzare! There was only a limited menu due to the refurb, but several things we tried to order were not available. The restaurant was brightly lit with no music, and much to our horror was freezing cold! We sat on a wobbly table near the entrance, feeling a bit like we were sitting in the corridoor, and giggled at the number of people who left the restaurant only to return with jumpers and cardis! I wore 2 cardis and had one over my knees to keep warm. Not the romantic anniversary dinner we had envisaged! Also, on Sunday morning we were woken by incredibly loud activity from housekeeping at 8.15am which on a rare weekend away from the children did not go down well!
