This hotel is not disabled friendly

Posted 12-Oct-2016
Pros: The room was nice and breakfast was good. Ben on reception saved the reputation of the hotel by upgrading my room & apologised on behalf of the hotel
Cons: The lack of access for the disabled to rooms on the first floor & the lack of help by a female member of staff from the restaurant.
Location: Cheltenham Literary Festival Oct 7-16
I was upgraded to a spacious room by Ben on reception who saved the day because I complained on arrival due to being allocated a single room on the first floor without an elevator! I'm registered disabled and use two walking sticks due to poor mobility. I'd booked this room at Short notice as a 4star mystery hotel. I assumed it would provide disability access given it was a 4star hotel. However, that information was missing. This hotel should not participate in the mystery hotel discount scheme when they are unable to provide suitable access to all their rooms.

Good Evening Ann. Thank you for taking the time to leave detailed feedback with regards to your stay. Its fantastic to receive feedback about Ben who made a difference to your stay. I have passed on your comments to our Restaurant manager with regards to the team, who will look into this. I will also look into the 4star mystery deal and update any details that I can to make it clear when booking with regards to the accessibility. Kind Regards Charlotte

Good location in Cheltenham

Posted 30-Sep-2016
Pros: It has a great location and very large restaurant with a great view of the gardens.
Cons: I would have said that the rooms need a good makeover but that is already happening.
Location: The location is very good and handy for getting on to the M5. There is a nearby golf course and several restaurants.
I stayed here twice this week on business. The hotel is giving the rooms a refurbishment. Although the room on my first night was a bit threadbare, the second room having being given a makeover was excellent. The staff remembered me from previous stays and were very friendly and efficient.

Friendly, comfy hotel in good location.

Posted 28-Sep-2016
Pros: Comfy, peaceful rooms & location.
Cons: The only down side was that as the hotel is in such lovely grounds the view was a blank wall, maybe a few plants in pots?
Location: You need a car but easy to get into Cheltenham & to visit the Cotswolds, Bath etc.
I was visiting family & only stayed room only. I didn't eat or use the facilities there. The staff were polite & helpful & one or two were extremely welcoming. The room was very nice, clean & comfy also nice a quite. I would stay again & also recommend it.

Nice Listed hotel in superb surroundings.

Posted 09-Aug-2016
Pros: Grounds and surroundings. Good helpful staff.
Cons: Rooms in old building need a makeover.
Location: Good for visiting lcal attractions.
Overall, a pleasant stay in this historic building. A historic building will usually come with a helping of " historic surroundings". You get what you book. If you are in the old building then there are no elevators and the rooms feel somewhat dated. The hotel did provide a fan which helped with the heat issue. The bathroom was small and cosy! The surroundings of the hotel were supberb as were the staff. Food was so so but not outstanding. There is a pub attached which i discovered on day 2 that is not related to the hotel which made a nice change from hotel food. The breakfast was buffet style and not appetising although some good choices.

Once a beautiful historic stately home

Posted 24-Jul-2016
Pros: Its sense of history, with old photos and info about the family who lived there. The very efficient and helpful female receptionist.
Cons: Replacing flush mechanisms in toilets.
Location: Great location with easy access to town and to main roads leading to other attractions
E-mails with booking staff were dealt with promptly and well - all that we had asked for happened. Our room was wonderful, in historic part of the hotel, with great views over green areas. Bathroom recently refurbished and it was wonderful with the exception mentioned below. We loved the idea of having a trouser press, although we did not use it! Breakfast was great, although as others have commented, getting seated in a timely manner was sometimes a problem. Staff need to have the breakfast set out before breakfast time starts so that they can then attend to guests. Selection of food was wonderful and it was beautifully cooked. View from dining room was wonderful. Dinner was also very pleasant. The food was beautifully cooked although we felt more vegetables would provide more balanced meals. Wait staff were very helpful. Flushing the toilet was a challenge. If you have Herculean strength, you may succeed in getting the toilet to flush on your first try. Otherwise, be prepared for multiple attempts and to spend lots of time in the bathroom. The flush mechanism was the problem - the toilet was equally difficult to flush whether the cistern was full or partially full. Unfortunately we were told that maintenance staff had said the water pressure was the problem and so the owners had said that repair would have to wait for a major refurbishment. Replacing flush mechanisms is needed and could be done without any other work being needed.

Tiny Tim room.

Posted 05-Jul-2016 on Hotels
We had a pleasant stay at the Cheltenham Spa hotel. Check in was great, the staff were polite and the spa area, bar and gardens were lovely. Unfortunately our room was (201) too small. It was really a single room with a double bed squashed in against a wall. This meant that we had an awful nights sleep, we were cramped and too hot. I would return but I would insist on a bigger room.

Excellent choice for breakfast. Lovely outlook from bedroom window. Alas! No lifts!
