Would recommend but not for standard or rear rooms

Posted 20-Oct-2016
Started off badly. We had reserved a Standard room with side sea view but were told on arrival it was not available but instead were offered a superior room which we were told was a better room. The room was at the back of the hotel with the balcony overlooking a busy road rendering the balcony useless. The hotel limits some of the dining rooms to superior rooms and above so we benefited from that.We did use the standard dining room for breakfast and dinner once and were not impressed. The superior dining room has wider range of fresh fruit at breakfast, you are shown to a table and waiters bring tea/coffee - in the standard room which is vast, we found jugs of coffee and hot water on the table when we arrived. The hotel does seem to have much better outdoor facilities than most of the neighbouring ones where sunbeds seemed to be very close together and much more on public view from the sea front path. There was never a problem finding the a sunbed at our hotel and no-one seeking to reserve beds. Location is very good with short busride to Paphos and we found some excellent restaurants in walking distance. All staff are very good and are the best feature of the hotel.

Great hotel

Location: Great location - nice walk along the front yo the harbour
Clean hotel with friendly helpful staff. Only downside was the double bed which was two beds pushed together. Food was great with lots of choice. Very relaxing hotel.

Mixed feelings...

Posted 20-Jul-2016 on Hotels
We were supposed to be staying at the above hotel as per the booking but the management moved us to a sister hotel within the same group called pioneer beach hotel citing the reason that there are no high floor rooms in athena beach hotel and the one available here was on the ground floor is not in a very good standard, the bathroom was rubbish and the carpets were old and torn. Hence we were given a tour of the other hotel on arrival and obviously we liked the other hotel room as it was cleaner and we had to choose this one instead of the one we booked on hotel.com website. The pioneer beach hotel was alright in the terms that it was clean, staff were very friendly and we enjoyed the stay. However we think that the hotel management should have given us a better room at the Athena beach hotel in the first place itself. I was not very happy with the swap but since I was with no other option but to choose the better room of the two offered. I would request hotel.com management to sort out the agreements in place as we book for something online and we are given something else on arrival citing very poor reasons. Not happy with that part, otherwise the holiday was fun and very relaxing. Lots of sun and sand. I would now think twice before booking again via hotel.com due to this experience. I would appreciate to get what I see online and what I pay for. Thanks.

Lovely hotel, great location, friendly staff

Posted 02-Jun-2016
We had a great time at this lovely hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly & welcoming staff. It would be nice if one of the outdoor pools was heated & if the evening entertainment was a but more varied but this is only a minor point. The hotel is right on the beach and a 20-25 minute walk to the harbour with eating places all along the way. Regular buses to the harbour & the airport stop right outside the hotel.

Comfortable hotel ideally located

Posted 20-May-2016
Pros: Main plus point is it's location
Cons: The entertainment is not brilliant.
Location: Good location for walking. Close to the harbour and fort and the archaeological site.
I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions and always find the staff to be very helpful and friendly. The hotel is ideally located for the beach and the centre is a 20 minute walk away. Although the hotel has a large number of rooms it never seems crowded and there are always plenty of sunbeds available. Facilities are good and local buses pass the hotel regularly.

Great Hotel - just a little early in the season

Posted 09-Apr-2016 on Hotels
Good hotel, a little bit early in the season so the pools were cold and waterslide was not open (although does not state it is summer season only). Room service was a bit of a nightmare as no one every seemed to answer. Would recommend a car hire and drive don to Ladys Mile beach near Limassol as its very shallow and great for kids (went to the Captains Cabin).
