Great room size, plenty of space. Comfy bed and dark room. This room was above the Irish Pub so was definitely noisy but the windows did a good job of blocking most of the street noise. Staff were lovely and helpful, easy walk to the train station.

Dear Guest, thank you for your review of our hotel! We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that you found the room size great, with plenty of space, comfortable bed, and dark room. We appreciate that you noted that the windows did a good job of blocking out most of the street noise, despite being located above an Irish pub. Our team is very proud that our staff was helpful and friendly. We are also glad that the train station was within easy walking distance of our hotel. We hope to have you soon as very welcomed guest, Best regards, Danila/reception
Arianna OttonelloDigital Manager
Great location, not too far from the train station and easy walk to old town sights. Large room, a little dated, air con issues for a while which was annoying, but they resolved it.

Dearest Michael, Thank you infinitely for the words of esteem expressed. The attention to detail and attention to the customer trying to satisfy him in every need through the breakfast service, the accurate cleaning of the rooms, the friendliness, a fundamental feature that we lovingly put daily in performing this work are the spearheads that allow us to have the accommodation always alive. The certainly strategic location of the Hotel Helvetia Genova, allows you to visit on foot and in comfort the city of Genoa, one of the largest medieval historical centers largest in Europe and 5 minutes walk from the central station, Principe station or in front of the Hotel is the bus stop, this allows you to avoid taking the car by adopting a more ecological behavior thus making the vacation a moment certainly of culture and leisure but with an eye to respect the environment. Thanking you again from the bottom of my heart and hoping to see you again soon, I forward you my warmest regards.Arianna OttonelloDigital Manager
The hotel itself was fine but the area is sketchy and hectic. Parking and traffic is a nightmare. Probably safe but who know’s. Seems like lots of university kids. Don’t eat the 9 euro buffet down the street. Not exactly proper temp. And pretty sure it gave us the runs for a day.

The location is great, very close to the Piazza Principe railway station and main streets with numerous palaces under UNESCO protection. Genova is an amazing historic maritime Republic, definitely worth visiting.

My room was not as difficult to navigate as the one I had on my visit the week before. There was only one step up (into the bathroom) rather than also having a step up into the room. The bed fit the size of the room better and there was a desk and chair.

Reception person was on the phone for several minutes while I stood ready to ask questions. I turned to look at brochures and finally went into dining room--still no acknowledgement of me and still chatting away on the same, apparently personal, call. After several more minutes I returned to stand at the counter in front of the coffee/espresso machine and continued to wait until the call was ended and I could ask for a cappucino.

Good value, great location
Great location, friendly staff, decent enough breakfast. The hotel is an old building so that comes with certain quirks, eg, the lift. But it's a great location - not too far from the station but very handy for the old town and the marina area. For the price, I thought it was good value.

Dear Essie,
Thank you for chosing our hotel for your visit in Genova, We are pleased that you enjoyed both your visit and your stay at the Hotel Helvetia Genova, our apologies for the lift that, even thouhg it is built within all the safety regulations, doesn' t offer a very large space, unfortunately not much can be done as the hotel building is a very old palace and is part of the UNESCO, not changes can be made on the lift surroundings to gain extra space.
Many thanks again and we hope to have you again as a fine guest on your next visit to the city.

Dear Sirs, thank you for your rating.
The rooms on the back side are very quiet but unfortunately
with poor light because all the houses in the old part of the city are build very close.
Next time you can ask for a room with front view (in front of the Annunziata church's)
Thank you again for your stay

Great location - easy to get to the funicular, beautiful church across the way, close to the water and the train station.
Bathroom was ridiculously small. Room was fine. Staff was very helpful. Elevator was terrifying and took a long time to arrive.

Location to train station and attractions very good. Staff could be friendlier. Disappointed that we were not offered a refund on one night we did not use room due to rail strikes, even though we alerted staff a day in advance that we would not be arriving until following day.

Hotel Helvetia
I spent 5 nights at this hotel, everything was perfect apart from the noise, my window overlooked an alley where an irish pub was located and it was noisy till 2am on 2 occasions and 1am on one occasion. So I recommend to ask for a room at the back.

Dear sirs,
thank you for your review.
Our position is really great, next to the most important attractions and interesting point.
Also we appreciate your words about our helpful staff and the breakfast meal is fresh and various.
We are afraid about the noise due to the pub situated on the street, unfortunately during the weekend sometimes happen.
Maybe in the next future we change the windows glass so the noise will be reduced.
We hope to welcome you again

Good location but was under renovation that made it noisy and somewhat chaotic.
Air conditioner was not working to full capacity; old units should be replaced. Our stay was very pleasant in the larger new room. Breakfast was excellent enjoyed listening to classical music & surprised to be staying in such an historical building. Reception ladies were friendly & very helpful.
Nice hotel with a great staff. The room was fairly large though most of the rest of the hotel was pretty small, hallways, breakfast area, and elevator. The elevator did not have an inside door that closed which was dangerous, especially for small children. The area immediately around the hotel was not the cleanest but it was in easy walking distance to the Aquarium and other old town attractions.
Great location - easy walking distance from Principe railway station in one direction, and from the old town in the other. Helpful, English-speaking staff. Bedding and towels changed every day. Generous cold buffet breakfast. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
The hotel is small and little wanting in regards to furnishings. The single bed was a hard old divan, the bar fridge was on the blink and you could hear everyone walking around on the next floor. On the plus side, this hotel was close to the major city sites and the staff were absolutely so helpful and friendly.
Pros:
Good location, affordable price, friendly staff, free WiFi, acceptable parking arrangement, clean rooms, AC can be turned on/off from the room, breakfast menu
Cons:
Noise from the street can be heard in the morning, rooms are pretty small,
Dan

Helvetia do not link with this website
When I arrive in the hotel, the staffs said that they do not advertise their hotel in this website and hence there no reservation under my name. I show them the reservation form and advance payment , they keep saying they do not advertise on the said website. They said they have rooms for us and I end up paying the room in cash.
I not going to use this website for any hotel booking in the future.
Perfect for my needs.Nearby to train, boat and bus connections.A small old fashioned hotel who's level of service with a smile could teach a lesson to many others. Two minute walk to the port area and Via Garibaldi, five minutes to Plaza de Ferrari and several fine restaurants.Fine breakfast and free internet usage.I can recommend and hopefully will return soon.

Visit Genoa
Good location, rooms clean but basic, nothing special. For us the breakfast really let it down. We stayed 3 nights, but only ate breakfast once. The other mornings went out for a coffee & a pastry.
Excellently placed hotel near to station and most of the sights you are likely to visit, Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful but average with not a great deal of choice. A perfectly reasonable hotel but did stand out in to many areas.
My sister and I stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Helvetia in Genoa in the beginning of September 2013. The room was quite large and very clean. The wireless internet connection worked fairly well.
The friendly staff directed us to a parking spot for our car that was very close and easy to get to. We were able to pull right up front of the hotel to drop our luggage off first. The staff also provided a map of the area with suggestions on where to eat and sites to see. They were very attentive and helpful.
The hotel location is fantastic. Our room looked out over busy Piazza Della Nunziata but when you closed the window, it was still quite quiet. There are so many shops and restaurants nearby. A seven-stop commuter funicular begins at the Piazza and it is worth the trip up to see the view of Genoa.
The hotel is situated amongst some very impressive landmarks and the architecture is gorgeous. We had decided to stay in Genoa so we could visit Cinque Terre but then we were sorry that we did not dedicate more time to exploring this really interesting and beautiful city. The Hotel Helvetia is a very good location to explore the city from. It is also very close to the train station.
We really enjoyed the hotel and would highly recommend it. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.
Good breakfast, friendly staff, but on a busy street and the bathroom leaked (which I told them about and they just ignored) so there was a lot of noise, woke up every morning at around 6 am. Location is very comfortable for the train station, city center and old port.
Stayed at the Hotel Helvetia for one night before heading to Cinque Terre the next day. There was nothing great about the hotel but there was nothing wrong with it either and did exactly what we needed it to. The rooms were of average size and clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the location was close to the train station and it was a short walk into the centre of Genoa. If you're looking for a place to stay in Genoa for a short time then this place fits the bill.
