Beware of live music in bar and wedding receptions
My husband and I were visiting Ireland for the 1st time and traveling with my son and his girlfriend who moved there over a year ago. I booked 2 rooms for a 1 night stay (Friday) and was advised of the hotel renovations ahead of time. The staff were pleasant and the rooms clean and comfortable. When we left for dinner in downtown, there was a wedding reception underway. When we got back around 9:30, all I could hear was the live music with the bass beat carrying into the room (on 1st floor over the wedding reception). My son went down to reception to inquire and was informed that the music in the bar would be over by 12:30. He went down to complain again when the music didn't stop and was told about the wedding reception, which continued until 2:00. We were able to sleep after that stopped. The construction noise, if any, did not bother us. The kicker was that this was the 2nd night in a row (different hotels), where we were kept awake until 2:00 in the morning due to live music at a wedding reception. Since we were traveling, we needed our sleep. I feel the first obligation of a hotel is to see to their guests' sleeping comfort, not serving as a wedding venue to that detriment. I complained upon check-out and was given a discount on the stay, but I can't recommend this hotel nor will I ever stay here again. My son feels the same and this hotel has lost all future business with him and visiting family & friends.
