Pros: Nothing
Cons: Booking System.
Location: Quite a lot if you don't loose your room.
Received email on 9th April confirming I had 2 rooms booked. Told hotel one had been cancelled in January and they eventually agreed this was correct, said they had not received confirmation email from expedia. I had so i sent it to them. They confirmed this on 10th April. On 14th April I received an email that hotel was fully booked and transferred me to a sister hotel. Had several phone calls with reception very polite but could not tell me how I had gone from 2 rooms to 0 rooms in 4 days. Other hotel very nice but a considerable distance away with no restuarants nearby so we had to eat in the hotel restuarant. Very good and very expensive. We had chosen the Perestrello mainly for location as we know the area and had booked into a nearby restuarant. We only wanted a room for one night and a simple meal as we did not arrive until late evening. All in all somewhat upsetting, bit of a shambles really.

Pros: quaint
Cons: need jacuzzi
Location: great location just west of centre of Funchal, near all the entertainment, shops, bars, top hotels, casino, transport
A relaxing little hotel with pleasant garden and pool. Clean and tidy with easy access to local bars and shops. Funchal city centre 10 minute walk away. Plenty of local buses or taxis to use

We were given a room in the basement with a terrace which had no outlook other than a concrete wall. The terrace was unkempt with old weathered table and chairs. Fortunately we were only staying 2 nights or would have moved on anyway. Breakfast left a lot to be desired.

Charming elegant small hotel

Posted 19-Nov-2016
Pros: Small and friendly. The breakfast was good with plenty of fresh fruit, yoghurt, bread and delicious scrambled eggs.
Cons: The pillows were a little uncomfortable and it would be nice to have tea-making facilities and a 'fridge.
Location: A good location to go into the centre of Funchal or in the other direction a wonderful lido and many de-luxe 5 star hotels.
Very helpful staff, comfortable rooms and convenient location.

heritage but surrounded by big hotels

Posted 28-Oct-2016 on Hotels
The hotel is small and half of it old and quaint but Ffunchal is a city of hotels and other places to stay so not very exclusive. The maon round runs next to the hotel so always noisy but easy access to the town and transport for trips around the island.

Nice hotel close to Funchal centre

Posted 21-Oct-2016
Cons: The staff were very friendly and the access to Funchal centre
Location: Good variety of boat and day trips, lots of walking if tours as well. Plenty of restaurants in the area.
Staff were very friendly and efficient, room comfortable. The only thing we did not like was that smoking was allowed on the verandas which were so close that the smoke drifted into the adjoining rooms.

No room on arrival after being books for 6 months!

Posted 12-Oct-2016
When we arrived after a flight from Canada, we were told that they were overbooked and we did not have a room. They did transfer us to the beautiful Quinta do Monte...not as convenient but a lovely hotel. It appears that the Quinta Perestrella has this problem fairly often from the comments and there was another couple that arrived after us that we're also transferred to another hotel. This is very concerning, but we were well compensated at the Quinta do Monte.

Small, oldie worldie hotel with a personal feeling

Posted 16-Sep-2016
Pros: It felt more personal than a larger more modern hotel. The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant. It has very pretty gardens.
Cons: Breakfast-the choice is a little limited and items ran out on the buffet frequently. The lighting in the bathroom and the fixture of the shower head.
Location: It is near a main road so it can be a bit noisy. Well positioned for restaurants and bars as well as access to the town centre by foot or bus.
I think the hotel had double booked the day we arrived in Funchal. They emailed me one day before we travelled to say they were putting us in The Girasoll down the road. The room there was awful! Shabby and unpleasant, although it was clean. our room in the Perestrello was nice with a pleasant balcony. We spent two days in The Girasoll. The breakfast and the pool area were very good there. There were plenty of sun beds and an efficient bar near the pool. Whereas The Perestrello has a very small pool where sunbeds are often all occupied by towels rather than people!!

Would return, lovely quinta in convenient position

Posted 21-Jun-2016
Pros: Small and friendly, very pretty Quinta with lovely garden and pool area in contrast to soulless large hotels in 'hotel strip'. Convenient position.
Cons: Evening meals instead of just snacks would encourage visitors to stay and use bar facilities and lovely balcony. Some furnishing updates needed.
Location: Can walk to old town and harbour but bus stop very convenient for hotel. Several lovely restaurants nearby. Wouldn't bother with hotel strip again.
Overall, a very pleasant place to stay which could easily be improved but nothing detracted from our enjoyment of the visit. The cosmetic improvements needed might even diminish the 'shabby chic' feel of the place. Everything about it (apart from the pillows perhaps) was ideal for us as we prefer small unpretentious hotels especially without the inflated prices that 'boutique' hotels charge. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Although only a 15 minute walk to the harbour and 20 mins to the old town, the busses made trips convenient (5 minutes and cooler on a hot day). Onward travel to all areas of the island for sightseeing and walking was easy. Altogether it was a wonderful first visit to Madeira. We would definitely recommend the island and the hotel to friends. Thanks to the staff and best wishes for the future.
