We rented and paid in full for one week for a 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom unit. When we got off our plane we had a message from the owner stating she had locked the master bedroom bath due to an issue. We called her, she said the shower leaked in that bathroom. We asked if she would compensate us not having the second bathroom, she said yes. It being Late at night and we were not even at the unit, yet, we said we’d call back tomorrow. We messaged her through the VRBO site the next am to ask if $150 off our rental fees was acceptable. Five hours later she messaged back that she is more comfortable if we went elsewhere. Being on the beach at the time we received her text, we were scrambling to find other arrangements. We could not figure out what we had done wrong. Both of us are seasoned VRBO renters with excellent ratings from previous owners and have always been asked to return. We even offered this owner to have her plumber come in during our visit. She refused. We even asked if she would unlock the door and we would only use the toilet since she said the shower leaked and we would not need any compensation. She refused. We were finally able to find other lodging at a considerable amount more. She refunded less than half the weekly fees for a two night stay. She refused to meet us when vacating to go over receiving our security deposit and she lives a few miles away, stating “I am not that type of person !” As a person who has worked as a rental agent, I can say this is totally outrageously unprofessional. I have bent over backwards to make my tenants happy so they would want to return. This owner is totally unreasonable and outright rude to her renters. The unit also needs repairs we made her aware of and she said she already knew about them and was not fixing them. My advice is to go elsewhere if you wish to have an enjoyable vacation.
