Modern property overlooking Folkestone Harbour, set within ten miles of Dover Castle and the Animal Park. Contemporary …More
The hotel is a pretty old building and so it can't compete in freshness and design with the rash of new "inns" which have sprung up. It has narrow corridors, a small lift, steps access to the reception area, and even an old "telephone" room for making private calls in the days before cellphones.
My room was basic but adequate. Single bed, old style bedside cabinet, strip light over the bed for reading, a wardrobe with hanging and shelf space, a small shelf with an old portable colour tv, a kettle, mug and box of tea bags, coffee, creamer and sugar packets, refillable at reception. There was a sink with a light and shaver point above it, a small armchair - wooden arms, and an ensuite cut into one wall, which was rather small and cramped, but the hot water was rapid and plentiful. A suitcase stand, spare blanket and pillow were provided. The windows were sash style UPV replacements, so no drafts and reasonably soundproof. The hotel looks just a little shabby in places, with chipped paintwork and scratched woodwork, obviously having seen a good deal of wear. My bedroom door had a one inch gap under it at one end - uneven floors in an old building I'd guess. The hotel is well situated on the Folkestone Lees - no heavy traffic, a green area in front and panoramic views across the English channel. I would happily go there again.
Excellent staff make check in swift and easy. The room is stylishly decorated, the bathroom modern with a large walk-in shower boasting 2 shower heads, one fixed overhead and one on a flexible hose for those hard to reach places or washing you without getting your hair wet. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate making facilities including a small pack of biscuits. Just off the esplanade which is a lovely walk with good lighting and interesting features (benches that talk to you, a new-ish war memorial, a bandstand, a cafe). Very close to the high street, but well away from noise and hustle.
We stayed in a family room which was nice but a bit small. When the sofa bed was made up there was no room to to walk. There was no storage so with cases etc it restricted even more. The bathroom appeared clean but there was a faint urine smell in the toilet. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was good.
The room was in the attic. It was a good size with a large bed. There was a kettle with milk, tea and coffee and 2 small bottles of water. The bathroom was large but the shower was a little primitive and could do with some upgrading. It was difficult to get the right temperature. We had asked for a quiet room, but as it was above a pub, people were laughing and speaking loud below our window, as it was a hot evening and people were sitting outside.
its a friendly hotel the staff was nice and friendly yes it is a old hotel but you can see there refurbishing throughout our room was lovely and clean the bedding was clean and the bed was comfortable however there need to put in more pillows (small moan)
we had a lovely sea view and the breakfast room was spotless and the breakfast lovely
fair accomadation and breakfast for the price we will definely be staying again when we visit family in future
Folkestone is a picturesque coastal town that makes the most of its seaside setting. With miles of promenades and the unique Lower Leas Coastal Park linking the harbour with the town centre, Folkestone comes alive in the summertime. Visitors can take a break from the beachside entertainment and venture to Port Lympne's nearby wildlife park which is home to elephants, primates, and big cats.
