We were in San Fran to celebrate my 65th birthday with our son. We had a wonderful visit, and was surprised that the atrium was torn down while we were visiting. Being that it was the week end before Thanksgiving was a surprise.
From the moment we walked through the door, the service given to us was a 10. Excellent staff, knowledgeable concierge, & relaxing rooms. This was my first stay at a Loews property, I will definitely be looking for a Loews property whenever we travel.
I greatly enjoyed my stay, I'm an early riser and got up early to see the sun rise. The waterfront is literally accross the road from the hotel and there is a sight-seeing pier close by to get those nice views of the rising sun over the bay framed by the Bay bridge.
As they say about real-estate: location, location, location. This hotel has that, right next to the Ferry building at the heart of San Francisco. All the sights of the city are within walking distance and if walking is not your thing, the transport hub of SF is right there with Ferries, BART, caltrain, busses, tram and MUNI metro to get you where you want to go. If going by car be aware of the high cost of parking.
Rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, some people complained in the reviews about small rooms but I felt the single rooms were perfectly fine, at least by European standards. The lobby area is very nice for relaxing after a long day and there was complimentary coffee in the morning for those needing a little pick-me-up.
The only detracting factor was the lack of of a real hotel breakfast (you can get in room breakfast, but it's not cheap) but that's not a big issue as there are many places nearby to get the breakfast you want.
The hotel has an attractive pricing compared to other hotels in the area. The location is very good.
The room is aging but not completely run down, the overall comfort level is low. Some nice facilities like drinking water fountain and USB charging and nice internet. Useful for a business traveller.
I had a single room. And though that was not much different in price to a hotel the friendliness of staff and fellow travellers, and the washing facilities and evening meals, and being walking distance from great places made it worth it. The room was a bit worn, but generally clean and the bed very comfortable. A real wide age range of travellers shared experiences over breakfast.
I was here on business for a week. The Hotel is situated 4 blocks from the trans america building and at the edge of Chinatown. The other side of the street is little italy. The hotel is quiet and is well taken care of. The beds are a little hard. The only downside is that one block away is the heart of the strip clubs/ gentlemen s clubs. If you are into that then it won't bother you. You can walk different paths to avoid it. Fisherman's Wharf is a 20 min walk thru little italy. Lots of good restaurants around.

Pocket Guide: San Francisco Financial District - Ferry Building Hotels
The bulls and bears of industry tread the streets of the Financial District, home to the city’s tallest buildings, including the iconic Transmerica Pyramid. The towers give way to The Embarcadero, the broad, palm-lined avenue that begins at the San Francisco Giant’s AT&T Park and ends at Fisherman’s Wharf. The road passes by the Ferry Building, a landmark transformed into an artisanal food market.
