The Cathedral and its picturesque Green are the jewel in Exeter's architectural crown. A popular location all year round with the Christmas Market an annual highlight. The nearby cobbled streets are brimming with eateries, cafes and shops. England's oldest pub and hotel are a stone's throw away. For a modern dining experience, head to the city's new restaurant quarter for a cocktail at a rooftop bar or take your pick from a range of cuisines - Scandinavian, Middle Eastern or gourmet burgers. Exeter Cathedral is one of the oldest and arguably one of the most beautiful in England, dating back to the early 12th century. The Norman Cathedral, which was replaced from 1270 - 1340, forms the base for the beautiful Gothic building we see today, with its famous west front and elegant nave. The city itself dates back more than 2,000 years and once served as a centre of trade for the Roman Empire. The old city walls can still be found in nearby Southernhay, forming part of the City Wall Trail, one of many historical walks around Exeter. The city also shines in the education arena with both Exeter University and Exeter College gaining national recognition as stand out educational providers. A dedicated restaurant quarter on Queen Street has brought new restaurants to the city, with rooftop bars, DJs and live music, making this a firm favourite for foodies. Exeter is also one of the region’s favourite places for shopping. Princesshay offers an array of high-street brands, with smaller independents in the Castle Quarter of the city, Gandy Street and Fore Street. Why Exeter?Exeter is a perfectly positioned city - it is easy to see why the Sunday Times voted it one of the best places to live in the UK. Two national parks, Dartmoor and Exmoor, are within easy reach, as well as stunning coastlines and rolling countryside. An abundance of culture awaits in Exeter. Art-house films are shown at the Picture House and Exeter Phoenix provides a full and varied calendar of events. Exeter also boasts various art galleries and a nationally acclaimed museum, Royal Albert Memorial Museum. Hosting the Rugby World Cup in 2015 put the city firmly on the map for sporting excellence. Very nicely furnished with all you could need except laundry soap! Nicely appointed with comfortable bed, but for US visitors this is a UK king which is the size of a U.S. queen. Great shower. Living area is beautiful with amazing view of cathedral. Area seems to be in transition so mind how you go in the evenings. ##### Laura Pernice This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Danny 15 Jun 2025 #### A place of modern beauty in the heart of Exeter City like no other Me and my partner were able to easily get into the property, stay there, have our own privacy, and check out again. The check in process was easy, instructions very clear, and I found the place right away easily. The place is beautiful, huge windows with natural light, nice and aired out, very modern, very comfy, a truly fantastic view and a place you can stay in for the day comfortably if you choose (which we did). It felt very safe, and the bed was very comfy. There was next to no noise at all while staying, and my partner and I dreamed about what it would be like to live together in a place like this - our relationship developed to the next level thanks to this place. Nothing not to like. ##### Danny ### 10/10 Excellent #### Verified traveller 20 Apr 2019 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities Great location right in the center of Exeter with an amazing view of the cathedral. It was so clean and comfortable, felt like a home away from home. ##### Verified traveller Stayed 3 nights in Apr 2019 This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Diana 24 Apr 2025 #### Amazing view, so central and just a lovely, clean, comfortable apartment for a getaway - we loved it The VIEW!!! The convenience of location, the cleanliness - the quick responses from James when we had questions - the huge windows that open right out onto the Cathedral Yard! - the fireplace - the rain overhead shower! We didn't know to hold the electronic key fob up to a panel to get into the big front door and thought we were locked out till a local person showed us. Turned out fine, but we worried for a minute there! ##### Diana ### 10/10 Excellent #### mark s. 9 Jul 2019 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Stunning Great location, beautiful flat-exactly as described and shown in pictures. The Cathedral view from the window is stunning. Would love to stay here again next time in Exeter. ##### mark s. It was a very well-appointed space with comfortable bed and chairs and wonderful views from the sitting area. Good kitchen equipment although it was not always easy to understand the instruction manuals! The entry system was secure and it was good to have the lift. ##### Richard W. The view is outstanding. This lovely flat is conveniently located in the center of town, a block from the High Street. The flat is well-appointed, modern, and very clean. Fiona and James were excellent hosts who endeavored to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Our family lives nearby and we hope to stay here again in the future. Thank you, Fiona and James. ##### Margaret Z. Close to shops and 20 mins from St David's station. Good heating system lovely and warm and good equipped kitchen and good oven and cooker. Dishwasher and washing machine are also there. Note, there's no free parking nearby but found some on the other side of the river on Wardrew road in St Thomas. 15-20 min walk to the apartment. Checking in process was very painful and the communication was quite unhelpful. Repeated the same automated message. Got there in the end all ok, nothing rudeunpleasant just a needlessly complicated check in process. ##### Thomas ### 8/10 Good #### Martin A. 10 Mar 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### So Many Positives Location superb Very clean Heating, equipment, supplies to avoid niggling need for washer, tablets dishwasher all thought through. Niggles - TV has no terrestrial live TV which when being used on business trip was really frustrating when coming home at night - assumed freeview is given really Wifi connect very slow for city centre loaction - 10MBPs/1MBps upload was really slow for work and large files, for many probably not issue but was for me. Of note, but not major for me - first two nights significant number of people outside door drinking/cannabis not majorly disruptive, just bit offputting at night - I guess always risk in city centre plus Edinburgh Woollen Mill closure probably unhelpful, so suspect this is temporary and won't be into future - all cleared/gone by nights 3-5 Overall, very close to a 5 for me, just slightly off because of TV and wifi speed. ##### Martin A. Stayed 5 nights in Mar 2023 ### 8/10 Good #### Scott P. 16 May 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Exeter Across from the Cathedral Great location with plenty of restaurants and shopping within a few steps. Spacious living area, kitchen was super practical with most everything needed to prepare a meal. Bedroom ok with closet space to hang clothes , but no chest of drawers or even a luggage stand to rest a suitcase on. Our suitcases sat on the floor for the length of our stay. You really are overlooking the cathedral green, which was super fun, with lots to watch going onout on the grass & in the square. It could be bit loud at night, but the bedroom is at the back, and so quite isolated from any noise. Bathroom was good, only complaint is no counter space to place bathroom items, they had to be placed on a ledge about a metre off the floor. Super great to have a washer/dryer combo. The dryer cycle was a wee bit loud. Elevator is super slow, only used when we had to take our luggage up & down. Convenient parking at NPC Market Street Car Park. Cost was 14.95 per night if you use the app to pay, or 16.95 at the machine when you park. Overall this is a very good spot, I would stay here again. ##### Scott P. Stayed 12 nights in Apr 2025 ### 8/10 Good #### Stuart D. 8 Oct 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location, listing accuracy Disliked: Communication #### Great location Location is excellent. Parking nearby in public car parks at cost. Apartment was very well furnished, quiet and clean. The living space is plenty big enough for a couple. We would definitely stay here again. We received no details about check-in and had to request these the day before arrival. It's also worth noting that the TVs are smart only, requiring you to log in to your accounts for On Demand services. If you're traveling from overseas, you're unlikely to have these. A coat stand/hooks in the small hallway would also be of use! ##### Stuart D. Stayed 2 nights in Sep 2023 ### 8/10 Good #### Jack S., Vancouver, Canada 23 Jun 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Exeter for three nights The property is ideally located in the heart of Exeter with a grand view of the Cathedral. The only issue is that the local hooligans congregate on the grass in front of the church and stay all night. Yelling and fighting. By morning the drunks leave only to return by 5 or 6 pm. The property has a full kitchen, including laundry washer and dryer. The dryer takes a long time to dry clothes so I made a make shift close line that dried our stuff in less time. We cut our trip to Exeter short by 2 nights to return to London. 2 to 3 days in Exeter is enough. ##### Jack S. You could be anywhere in the world - but for us just an hour up the road! An old building which has its own quirks that somehow adds to its charm! We knew that we would have to quarantine on arrival in the UK so we wanted a property that was large, sunny, spacious, and well equipped. 3 Clifton Court exceeded all our expectations. Beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, high quality linens (with plenty of thick towels - thank you!), excellent bathrooms, comfy beds, and a peaceful private garden across the road. The kitchen was the greatest surprise. Oftentimes, a rental property kitchen is very basic. With having to quarantine for up to 10 days I had arranged a delivery of groceries and wine from Waitrose and had planned some interesting meals. The kitchen had EVERYTHING I needed - even a large pestle and mortar! With the three French windows open and the sun streaming in, it was memorable. We were able to entertain easily later in our holiday. Philip was quick to respond to any requests or questions and was so helpful to us. The little touches were very thoughtful - we arrived after a long-haul flight and long drive to find nice bread, butter, milk, apple juice, scones, jam, strawberries, and Devonshire clotted cream in the fridge. We will most definitely be back (as is clearly the case with other guests when reading the guest book). The pandemic meant we last saw the family 18 months ago - thank you for making what could have been a stressful reunion into a joyful retreat. ##### Carl T. Stayed 4 nights in Aug 2021 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jane G. 28 Sept 2020 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Excellent City Centre Apartment My husband and I stayed in the apartment for 5 nights. Excellent base for exploring Devon. The apartment was opposite the cathedral so very central and when the windows are closed it is very quiet. It was very clean and comfortable and the pictures on the website are accurate. The shower was really powerful which is always a bonus and the bed was comfortable. Plenty of good restaurants within a 10 minute walk. Harry's Restaurant in Longbrook Street is definitely worth a visit. ##### Jane G. Stayed 5 nights in Sep 2020 ### 8/10 Good #### Kym R. 6 Jan 2020 Liked: Check-in, communication, listing accuracy #### Central location The apartment is beautifully renovated and setup. We chose Exeter for its close proximity to the scenic Devon coast and Dartmoor; both of which we enjoyed immensely. As noted in another review, the compact microwave is slightly challenging to figure out, guests need to refer to the instruction manual. Also worth checking out the recycling process on arrival to save time later. We parked our car in the Mary Arches Street carpark which is within walking distance. The parking can get expensive, depending what time of day you drop the car off and then retrieve the following day (after 6pm seems to be far less). We did have an issue with the internet connection for the first 24 hours however the owner was in touch and this was sorted out by restarting the router after we were given access to it. ##### Kym R. Stayed 5 nights in Dec 2019 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Bruce C C. 13 Aug 2019 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Cathedral Yard apartment We thoroughly enjoyed this exceptional apartment. Not only does it overlook Exeter Cathedral, but to complete this beautiful view, one can also see out across to the hillsides on the far side of the Exe. We also enjoyed relaxing in the spacious living room. The neighborhood was fantastic. Everything you could need is right around the corner, including a Guild Hall shopping mall with a grocery store. An array of restaurants, pubs, and coffee shops are all very close by. The plaza in front of the cathedral is a lively scene at all hours, but as promised, when the windows are closed almost all street noise is completely shut out. The bedroom is cozy and perfectly quiet. It could use some dresser drawers in addition to the abundant closet space. The bathroom is clean and contemporary with a rain shower. This apartment perfectly suited our needs for a 5-day working stay. ##### Bruce C C. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Daniel L. 2 Jun 2019 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Great flat in a very interesting city This flat, overlooking the Cathedral and its square, can't be beaten as for location and convenience. It's within an easy walk of one of the train stations and it's at the centre of town, around the corner from the high street. Lots to do in Exeter, and the public walking tours start on the Cathedral square, so it couldn't be more conductive to full participation. This city is an under-stated gem, and the flat is a new renovation, in pristine condition. Our only complaint is modern new appliances that defy easy understanding; fortunately, instructional manuals are at hand. ##### Daniel L.
