If you're looking for a great destination for your next holiday, consider Lancashire. Many people just pass through the county en route to the county's more famous neighbour to the north, the Lake District. But in fact there are plenty of great attractions and activities to enjoy here and you should consider stopping over for at least a few days to find out more. In addition to castles and abbeys, mills and canals, Lancashire is home to traditional seaside resorts that visitors have been coming to for many decades. Towns such as Lancaster with its historic monuments and associations are also very popular destinations, and the county is replete with museums, galleries and festival and music venues. Stop over at a hotel in Lancashire and you can also visit some great stadiums such as Ewood Park in Blackburn.
Ewood Park stadium in Blackburn is the home ground of Blackburn Rovers FC. This famous club played an instrumental role in the founding of both the Premier League and the Football League, so for many fans their stadium is something of a place of pilgrimage. Of course, you're always welcome to come along here from your Lancashire hotel to simply enjoy watching the football of an afternoon. Blackburn town is interesting in its own right, with several popular tourist attractions and also some excellent shopping outlets and dining venues. You could happily spend a full day here, taking in sightseeing, a match and dinner afterwards.
Ewood Park has been home to the local football team since 1890 and has a seating capacity of over 31,000, so there's always a great atmosphere here on match days. If there's no match on when you come from your Lancashire hotel you can instead take a tour of the stadium, which is available twice each month, on a family ticket if you're bringing kids along. Larger groups can choose their own dates for a tour, but either way it's a good way of seeing all the facilities, inspecting the grounds and listening to some amusing anecdotes about the club's history from a knowledgeable guide.
