"Stayed for v festival"
Clean hotel, close to amenities, staff were very friendly. Only downside was the lock on the hotel room door was very temperamental. Staff had to fix on both occasions but other than that, a good place to stop. For anyone else using for v festival, and this isn't a fault with the hotel, but taxis back were very expensive from the site to the hotel so probably not ideal for that, but as I say, this is an aside and no way reflects the hotel or review

"Convenient for Town Centre"
We stayed here just for one night as we were attending a party in the town. We didn't spend much time in the room other than to sleep. The room was basic and a bit tired but very clean with tea and coffee making equipment and TV. Overall we found it good value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast in the morning was lovely.

"Handy for Duxford air museum"
Booked the family room which was one double, one single and one double sofa bed rather than one double and 3 singles, as advertised on Expedia. Two of my three children therefore had to share, which caused unnecessary difficulties. The room is relatively small for the number of people but was adequate for a one night stay. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening - walked half a mile to The Plough, which was excellent - but had breakfast. This was quite disorganised - had to wait for certain items to be refreshed - and we spotted a few ants on our table. All in all if you're in the area for a night or two it's a good option, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay in the family room any longer with the size of our group and the place feels in need of one or two extra staff and an update in a few places.

"Lovely B&B, excellent service, great price"
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Waggon and Horses for 1 night whilst attending a wedding. The price for a double room was very reasonable and considerably cheaper than most of the surrounding options. The room itself was in a separate annex to the pub and nicely made up with all the basic requirements (tea, coffee, TV, etc). The bed was very comfortable and the early check in (1200) was a bonus. The full English breakfast on the Sun morning was very good and the continental options were of sufficient variety. The best feature of the place though is the excellent service provided by the owner. We left our car at the wedding venue on the Saturday and were struggling to get a taxi back to it on the Sunday morning. The owner had his girlfriend drive us to the place at no cost, a very nice gesture and one which epitomises the very helpful nature of the staff. Would stay there again and recommend it as a very good B&B.

Pocket Guide: Pet Friendly Hotel in Essex

If you're a dog owner then you'll know full well how restrictive it can be when it comes to taking a holiday. While holidays abroad are off the list, unless you want to go through the stress and cost of putting your four-legged friend into kennels, opting to take a break in Essex means that you can take your pet with you. There is a growing number of pet-friendly hotels in the county, ranging from B&Bs to elegant country hotels. However, it's not just about getting the whole family together for a staycation; pet-friendly hotels also offer a lifeline to those for whom their dogs are more than just a pet, such as seeing or hearing guide dogs.

    Pet-Friendly Hotels in Essex

Halstead is a picturesque market town just seven miles north of Braintree. It can trace its roots back to Roman times and there are a number of remnants from its rich history, such as the 16th century Townsford Mill, which spans the River Colne as it runs through the town. Halstead also happens to be home to the aptly-named The Dog Inn - a luxurious, pet-friendly B&B. The rooms are comfortable and simply decorating, providing a perfect base from which you and your furry friend can explore what the town has to offer.

    Walking with Your Dog

Ensuring your pet gets enough exercise - even when you're on holiday - is an important consideration when it comes to choosing a hotel. Old Wills Farm B&B is a beautiful, pet-friendly hotel set in acres of arable farmland. Dogs are welcomed by prior arrangement, and there's plenty of nearby space to ensure they get substantial walkies. In addition to the farmland itself, Old Wills Farm is close to some superb, wide open spaces, such as the rolling Langley Green.

    Upmarket Hotels That Welcome Dogs

However, if you want to add a touch of unashamed luxury to your stay, there are some excellent luxury, pet-friendly hotels in Essex. The Crown House Hotel, in Saffron Walden, is a boutique hotel, with 18 individually designed rooms and set in beautifully landscaped gardens. The Crown House is also a licensed wedding venue, allowing couples and wedding guests to ensure that their pets don't have to miss out on the celebrations.

Putting your dog into kennels can add stress and cost to your time away from home. Book into a pet-friendly hotel and you can make certain that your dog continues to receive the love and attention he deserves.
