Nice hotel shame about the fire safety!

Posted 11-Aug-2016
Due to refurbishments fire exits were closed; fire doors would not close. Leaving the only one way out of our wing down single width wooden staircase. Also issues with food quality and not value for money.

Overnight stay before wedding the next day

Posted 30-Jul-2016
Pros: A beautiful venue with lovely grounds. Well decorated, spacious and clean rooms. It is generally comfortable and relaxing. Public areas are nice too
Cons: Spa treatments were expensive for the quality of treatment which ranged from massages (3 people, all not too impressed) to poor nail treatments. :(
Location: There is a small village, Hatfield Heath, nearby (drive away) but otherwise quite remotely located so not easy to eat elsewhere. Rural and pretty.
A group of people had chosen to stay at Down Hall for its convenience to our wedding venue. Our aim was to have a relaxing day with some spa treatments and afternoon tea prior to the wedding after the madness of planning such an event. Many of the services however are very overpriced for the standard of customer services you get back. Sadly, as with many larger hotel groups, the personal service has been lost to comply with hotel policy. Staff generally didn't seem too happy to be serving you. We had afternoon tea (which was nice) and had to call over the waitress after a long wait - the lounge was practically empty so it was not pressure of work. Spa treatment prices are very expensive for the level of professionalism received. You have to pay extra to use the spa (sauna etc.) which I felt was unreasonable if you have paid the pretty high room rates already. 5 of us had treatments and all thought they were OK but nothing more. 2 of the nail treatments failed the next day (which was the day of the wedding!) We had had difficulty with the booking relating to inclusion of breakfast but sorted it out on the phone (we thought). Turned up to be told we had to pay extra for breakfast and had to go to reception to sort it out. A newspaper was ordered which had not been delivered. All this added to our sense of being rushed on such a busy day timewise. I enjoyed my stay at Down Hall mainly due to the room comfort and good company, but would not choose this venue agai

Fint hotell men ligger for seg selv

Posted 26-May-2016 on Hotels
Fint hotell som ligger for seg selv så ingen ting i nærheten om du ikke har bil. Hotellområdet er veldig stort med hage og natur. Hotellet er stilfullt med hyggelig betjening og veldig god mat.

Verlängertes Wochenende

Posted 18-May-2016
Pros: die Atmosphäre
Cons: Restaurant fällt in seiner atmosphärischen Gestaltung etwas ab

Great value

We had a lovely first stay at this hotel. The only disappointing areas were a lack of lift and our bedroom was extremely hot with no air conditioning.

A quiet place near Stansted

Last minute decision at work to stay. The staff were welcoming and pleasant throughout. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and very peaceful (no local aircraft noise or motorway) Food in The Grill is exceptional and the gym very nicely done and a pleasure to use.

Lovely but not lovable

Posted 07-Apr-2016 on Hotels
A beautiful building in lovely surroundings, with huge and luxurious rooms and bathrooms. However, the WiFi was flaky and the very size of the place and it's dual use (business conferences, so you walk past big rooms of people meeting about knee joints!) meant it lacked somewhat in feelings of warmth or hospitality. For a business stay, absolutely great (so long as you don't mind switching your WiFi on and off a lot!) but I wouldn't go there for a leisure break.
