HOtel with a fantastic view over the bay at Torqua

Posted 14-Oct-2017
Pros: The view from my room
Cons: NOthing
Location: On the English Riviera, much to do including walking, Cockington village, Paignton and steam railway, Dartamouth, Babbacombe and Brixham.
I spent three nights at The Imperial. I came to Torquay to do the South Coast walk and some walks around Torbay. I had a fabulous room - more suite than a room with a hallway, 2 wardrobes, a good sized bathroom and a large bedroom with balcony. This suite was great value for money. I ate in the restaurant each evening and had breakfast in the dining room each morning. the food was superb especially the Beetroot gnocchi which was divine. I felt I got great value for money and would certainly stay at The Imperial again.

Very nice hotel, stunning view

Posted 07-Oct-2017
Pros: Its position, on the cliff, gave us the view we'd hoped for. It was clean throughout and the staff were very attentive and friendly.
Cons: The bar could have been kept open later, we would expect it to be open at least until midnight, in comparison with other hotels we've stayed in.
Location: Superb, close to Torquay town centre and harbour. Plenty of restaurants and bars, as well as shops.
We stayed four nights in the Imperial Hotel. Our room was very clean, lovely and big with a balcony, as requested, looking out to a stunning view, slightly obscured by a couple of conifer trees, but still gave a fabulous panorama of the Torbay coast. Comfy bed, good lighting, decent-sized bathroom. Hotel staff were always friendly and obliging. Our one gripe was that the bar closed rather early, at about 11 pm. We had breakfast, which was quite well-stocked and, again, restaurant staff were attentive. The view of the bay from the restaurant was spectacular, a delight to see whilst eating.

Great hotel and facilities except £7 night parking

Posted 02-Oct-2017
The hotel was excellent so we're the staff and the facilities! Our shower did not work in our room but the bath did and after reporting it was not fixed! Parking was 7 pound per night which is very steep and our friends did not have to pay on checkout but we did. I want to book for next year but will look elsewhere first.

Not as good as the view

Posted 23-Sep-2017
Though I’ve rated the staff as terrible, the staff themselves are not, it is just number of them wasn’t enough. On the evening it took over 20 minutes to get served at the bar (which is over priced) , at breakfast it took over 10 minutes to get a table (and that wasn’t due to lack of seating!). The rooms are very below par, though clean & tidy, they have not been very well thought out. Additionally, it is very clear where the rooms & hotel itself is becoming dilapidated with very poor installation of new infrastructure (fire / electrical / etc...) which really doesn’t help to the over look & feel of the hotel. The location with its out standing views of the bay is excellent, it’s just you can see how the hotel is very slowly slipping into ill repair due to a lack of investment over the years. Even though the hotel could brilliant, I just don’t think this a 4star hotel, very much closer to 3, but the rates don’t reflect this.

Luxury overlooking the bay

Posted 20-Sep-2017
Pros: Location overlooking bay wonderful.
Cons: Mattress needed replacing so bed wasn't too comfortable. Spoke with staff and mattress appeared to be flipped which didn't help too much
Location: Convenient for everything at Torquay, public transport. Attended Agatha Christie festival.
Return visit to this superior hotel. Great holiday.

I booked a standard double and asked if it was possible to have a sea view and balcony as this was a 60th birthday treat for my husband. On arrival we were informed that we had been upgraded to a suite that had magnificent sea views and a balcony, I was really surprised and very pleased. Even if this hadn't happened I would still have rated The Imperial as excellent, especially the lady who booked us in whose name, unfortunately, we didn't get. Thank you for being part of a memorable weekend.

Could be better

Posted 12-Sep-2017
This hotel has obviously had improvements made over the years , and is very big with different lifts for different areas . Could be amazing with more thought and money put into it . Our room was amazing with the sunshine you could be in dream world . Little things though are for example , the room had be decorated , very nice , had left the old furniture, which was fine , but example . The unit ( old dressing table ) had had a fridge ( I think ) in it before and now nothing , which is ok . But it had be left unloved and very messy , dust/ dirty . Should have been clean out and revanished . The room was lovely , just needed attention to the little things ( done in a rush . Which is the feeling you get in the morning when cleaners , many of them , cleaning rooms before people had checked out , or so it seemed . Knocked on our door just before nine to clean and we were getting ready . We were checking out at 11: did check out slightly earlier 10 ish . Shame if you wanted a lie in . Staff worked very work , in the restaurant and cleaners were busy , but it bit seem as very thing was a slight rush . Saying all this I would still use this hotel again , but it could be so much more . Still can see how wonderful of a hotel it is .

Beautiful views over the bay

Posted 08-Sep-2017
Pros: Peace and tranquility
Cons: Some of the rooms are looking tired and dated needs some attention. The windows in our room did not lock, maintenance were advised. didn't show up
Location: The hotel sits on a hill overlooking the sea with access to the shingle beach nearby. Lovely and peaceful, away from nightlife and noise,
Lovely surroundings, very pleasant staff, very helpful and attentive. Lovely location for nice walks, enough distance away from the hub-bub. Peaceful and quite in the lounge area to sit with a coffee and a book overlooking the sea. Access to the pool nice and easy, with lovely gardens. Food very pleasant, breakfast was amazing, so much choice. We did not east on the restaurant but from looking at the menu by the life ample choice to suit everyone. Definitely looking to go back, but would request a sea view next time.

Great stay, weather wasn't the best but could still enjoy the indoor pool
