This is a super little guest house. I did have second thoughts after I had booked, but these were banished when I arrived. The room was spacious and fully furnished with just about everything you might expect. The Shower was very powerful and the towels seemed a bit larger than usual. I was in Torquay for the football and the ground is only 10 minutes walk away. Breakfast was excellent.
The only thing I could find wrong was no electric shaver socket in the bathroom, no problem for me but might be worth knowing.
This small de-luxe Michelin guide recommended hotel is very centrally located, and is mainly used by the commercial trade. …More
Show stopper location with a very welcoming staff, this could not be bettered. Nothing was too much trouble and everything requested was dealt with, with a smile and happy demeanour. The building is very impressive as is the furnishings and the décor. The room (7) was not as I imagined and for the price I felt was small and cramped, A nice big bed dominates the space but it is not long before you realise it is two beds pushed together, two double beds mind you, so no real discomfort. The bed is the main feature of the room which left the rest of the living space very cramped. The bathroom and toilet were very clean and the shower very powerful, so powerful in fact that it completely wets the whole room, the small shower shield is inadequate and does not stand up to the job. We used the bar which was very pleasant and again great staff. We ate their one night which was terrific and reasonably priced. Breakfast is a treat and the speciality Castle breakfast simply delicious. All the food sourced locally and you can tell. This is far from a moan just an observation there are many more ups than downs and if honest I am being a bit picky. We will be in Dartmouth again in December and have re booked at the Royal Castle so it can't be that bad, certainly not bad enough to complain. I am sure if we had the staff would have been more than happy to resolve our issues. Great place, in a great place.

We had a very enjoyable and memorable 3 day experience in Torquay. We booked the Marstan Hotel based on the excellent feedback it had received on a range of websites..
Craig and Ian lived up to their billing and met all of our needs. The breakfast was excellent and the youthful Trisha certainly enhances this experience.
We stayed in the room with the four poster bed which overlooked the pool. On reflection the additional money paid for the 'four poster' experience probably wasn't worthwhile as other rooms appear just as nice and are more affordable.
We had two very enjoyable late afternoons spent in the hot tub and in the swimming pool. We appeared to be the only guests in the bar and from a personal perspective it is a shame that it wasn't a little bit more sociable.
We would definitely return to Torquay, but would probably try alternative accommodation.
In summary a very memorable, but slightly over-priced experience.

Arrived lunch time, checked in, was given room overlooking the bay - very nice.
Had a quick pint in the garden/ bar - very nice too.
Was out for football match and a night out. Arrived back and slept soundly in comfy bed and it was quiet night. Hot shower in morning, towels and washing toiletries provided. Team and coffee in room.
Cooked English breakfast was exactly that and very nice.
Staff were helpful, polite and cheery.
The Riviera comprises three main towns: Torquay is the most fashionable and popular with a luxury marina, good beaches, and family attractions including a famous Model Village and the Kent’s Cavern. Paignton is a more traditional English resort, boasting a superb zoo. Brixham is not only a picturesque fishing harbour but one of Britain's busiest fishing ports. The adjacent area, the South Hams, is known as one of the prettiest in England.
