"A good base to explore Tuscany from, short stays"
This hotel is 45 minutes drive from Pisa and 35 minutes from Florence. You definitely need a car, as the hotel is actually in Empoli and not Vinci, the town is very sleepy not many restaurants. We didn't try the hotel food as their restaurant always looked closed. The hotel was very quiet, more of a business hotel than a holiday destination. Would recommend this hotel as short stay venue. The room was comfortable, modern bathroom, Sky TV, free safe also parking was free which was a surprise.
We only used this hotel as a base to explore the surrounding area. It well positioned, close to the main motorway and within easy reach of the toll road. It is not a Florence hotel but as we didn't want to be surrounded by tourists it was ok and we gained a feel for real Italy.
When we drove up I was a little disappointed with the outside of the hotel but once inside I was pleasantly surprised. The room was very nice with a patio and lovely bathroom. There was a lot of variety for breakfast - just don't expect the normal heavy American breakfast. The hosts were so friendly and accommodating. I plan to practice my Italian and come back just as soon as I can. You do need a car or plan to use the public transportation.
Located in gorgeous rural surroundings, Borgo San Benedetto is a number of rural buildings turned into comfortable hotel rooms and villas with plenty of space for large families.
The staff are amazingly welcoming and friendly and will help in whichever way they can. The main building hosts the breakfast area as well as some rooms. The breakfast offers a combination of local cold meats, fresh fruit and some delicious cakes and pastries!
There are two separate pools with plenty of loungers to enjoy the Tuscan sun. We were there at the end of October and still were able to enjoy a dip in the pool!
In terms of location, the hotel is a comfortable drive away from Florence, Pisa, Siena, Lucca but most importantly the wonderful San Gimignano which we thoroughly recommend for a beautiful medieval town with incredible shops, restaurants and icecream!
Overall a very pleasurable visit and we will be coming back!
I hope to return to the wonder Sant'Lario!
I really enjoyed the warm hospitality, the variety and quality of home cooking at breakfast, quaint and romantic setting, the enchanting walk to the pool through forest trees and past a field of sunflowers, the clean and spacious room, the location (an hour from Florence and close to beautiful villages such as Volterra and San Gimignano) and the luxurious touches that made the holiday for special e.g. Seating area overlooking Sant'Larrio vineyard and cosy night lighting. The owner was extremely friendly and spoke excellent English. She had good local knowledge and was very willing to help me with any queries.
Me and my partner's time in Tuscany was very memorable and thanks for making our first visit so special.
The hotel is situated in a wonderful country location approximately 5km from the town of Castelfiorentino. Both peaceful and tranquil if you want to relax and chill out with a swimming pool and tennis court. Walking around the garden at the end of the day is a lovely experience amongst Olive and Fig trees as well as the sweet scent of roses permeating the cooler evening air after often very warm days.
Susanna is an excellent hostess and can offer great advice about any trip you want to make including best way to travel, train times, and if travelling by car suggests places of interest on route to or from your planned destination.
An evening meal is planned and the menu displayed at breakfast so you have the choice to eat at the hotel or make other arrangements. The dining room is very comfortable with both table spacing and ambience whilst Guiliano as waiter is always on hand and charming.
Occasionally items in the room were not replaced by the chambermaid i.e. drinks in the fridge & coffee/tea but overall the room was clean & tidy.
To conclude the hotel is perfect as a location for visiting Florence, Sienna, Volterra, San Giminiagno, Monterigioni and others as well as exploring the beautiful countryside.
We had a fantastic week - highly recommended!

Superbly located in the heart of Tuscany, on the hills of the Val d'Elsa , the hotel Le Boscarecce, is the ideal base for …More
Set between the Arno and Elsa rivers, the Empolese val d'Elsa area consists of three urban centers at Empoli, Castelfiorentino, and Certaldo and boasts a valuable artistic and cultural heritage. In addition to the art of local museums and churches, the region's history and development can also be seen in the ceramics from Montelupo and the glasswork displayed at Empoli's Virtual Museum of Glass.
