Too many small things going wrong

Posted 19-Sep-2016
Location: Everything. Easy walk up the back way tithe castle.
Started with overpowering scent in hallways on day of arrival, continued with overzealous cleaners removing an apple and my newspaper while cleaning room, mystified by the controls on the tub, insulted by waitress trying to ensure I really knew the price (and presumably thought I could afford) the 28 pound tea and finished with an additional day being added to the bill which had to be removed. I thought this stay would be a highlight of my visit to Scotland and I was wrong. The breakfast staff were lovely, the hotel is pleasantly appointed and the location is good.

Nice but small. Overall very good

Posted 10-Sep-2016
The room was small and looked into a back alley, but it was comfortable. It was easy to stay there for two days. Excellent staff. Good food and good recommendations for restaurants.

Very Good Hotel

Posted 30-Aug-2016
We stayed for the last weekend of the Festival 2016 and the hotel was full, so booking in the restaurants was required. Staff were excellent, friendly, hardworking throughout. Very nice food in the Brasserie, pleasant atmosphere in the lounge with jazz piano at lunch and jazz trio in the evening. Sadly our room was not ready at 3pm and we had to get the manager to sort this out, which he did promptly but unfortunately he gave us a room (no 519) which was next to a service space with machinery in it, which meant that we needed earplugs at night - having asked for a quiet room. The shower drained slowly but this was promptly fixed on a Sunday, which is impressive. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

nice hotel close to amenities

Posted 27-Aug-2016
Pros: Location and a nice room with views
Cons: Expedia should improve giving more detailed and truthful description of what is on offer for a particular price.
Location: location fantastic for concerts, and other cultural events and also restaurants.
after a hassled first night we were given a nice room which I was expecting anyway in the first instance. Why one has to kick up a fuss to get what one deserves and expects. We had a nice quiet room with lovely views. Breakfast was not included, but there are plenty of caffees near by to choose from. The shower in the room was not working properly as some part was missing. Quite inconvenient.

Central for the fringe

Posted 23-Aug-2016
The Wardorf was in an excellent location for getting from airport by tram with a short walk. We were also a 10 min walk from the centre of the fringe festivalue and cathedral.

Wolf in Sheeps Clothing

Posted 21-Aug-2016
Pros: The bar under the large skylight near the lobby was nice. Large open seating and live music.
Cons: Re-train the staff. Get the NYC Waldorf staff to show how a luxury hotel staffer is supposed to be. Also, remove the poor extension building.
Location: It's in a great location to sights and restaurants.
Don't waste your money. The fact that this hotel is allowed to carry the Waldorf Astoria badge is a joke. A disappointing joke. As a hotel it can rival Marriott however, it carries the name that tells you that it's worth what you paid for. When you arrive you quickly see that it is not. With a reservation to their in house restaurant, my wife and I sat down to eat about 1 1/2 hours prior to the restaurant closing. The waitress told us that all of the seafood was no longer being sold. Our room was not in what appeared to be the original portion of the building. We were put in a small room with a view of the parking lot. The building part of the hotel that they put us in looked like the steerage section of the Titanic. In the morning we could hear every little, and big, noise that the staff were making in the hall way. Being an avid traveller, I don't expect much. I understand that cultures do somethings differently. However, being someone that has lived in the UK for some time now, I know what to expect from British hotels. I also know what to expect from luxury hotels and the Waldorf brand. This was not it. I say again....DO NOT STAY HERE.

Great building lots of character.

Posted 18-Aug-2016
The hotel is in a convenient location close to the castle and train station the building is spacious and has everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. It's a bit expensive but I suppose that's to be expected in a place like this

Excellent location, classic British hospitality

Posted 13-Aug-2016
Proximity to Edinburgh castle and major shopping streets. Safe neiborhood so you can explore and nights of the city and walk back to the hotel. Services are classic, hey it is a Waldorf Astoria hotel whose name speak for its standard. Definitely stay here next time I visit Edinburgh
