excellent location!!

Posted 25-Apr-2016
Pros: The location and the building are fabulous..The staff wonderful except for the gentleman who gave me that room...
With Hilton Honors I was given the smallest room, furthest from the elevator (not sure if it was still in the hotel) so small there wasn't even a dresser so I lived out of my suit case for 3 days!!

Comfort near Edinburgh Castle

Posted 22-Apr-2016
Hotel is grand with wide hallways, traditional decor and spacious rooms. The hotel is very clean and appears recently renovated, yet still felt stuffy and a bit dated maybe due to the very traditional decor. The staff was very helpful, courteous and professional as one expects from a Waldorf property.

Great staff, fabulous food

Posted 04-Apr-2016
The room we stayed in was small but comfortable and the shower was amazing. The food is the real selling point. Could not fault the breakfast or the evening meal in the gal in brothers brassrrie. The spa was a little lacking and could be improved but was clean and the staff were also lovely.

Expected hospitality at a Waldorf - did not happen

Posted 29-Mar-2016
Pros: Central location
Cons: See the review!!!! They did not have a sense of hospitality and accommodation.
Location: ITs Edinburgh
We had Guaranteed Late Checkout at 4:00 pm - at 1:30 when we returned to our room the door key was changed and we found our room left open with no one around! This was the final failing in a string of incidents that added up to disappointment for a "5 star" hospitality experience. 1) We asked about going to a hotel restaurant at 9:00 in the evening and were told they closed at 10:00 and we could not be served at this time - it was empty. 2) Our theater tickets were not at the Concierge Desk as expected - they did not offer to call the theater and confirm that our tickets would be honored - we went and the Theater was perfect. (but we got no support from the concierge) 3) We stepped out to the street for a cab several times and the Doorman went inside passing us and leaving us to get our own taxi - this we repeated even when we requested a taxi as we were leaving with luggage. 4) We asked to consolidate two reservations when we checked in and they required that I come back the second day - they did not know how to handle. 5) our floor was under renovation, why put us on that floor? were all floors being renovated???

Dear Traveller, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. I am sorry that you left disappointed with your stay and I will certainly share your feedback with my team. Our Galvin Brasserie De Luxe serves until 10pm most nights and we always accommodate our hotel residents. I understand that the concierge team and a member of guest relations tried reaching you several times throughout the day and when they did get you you advised that it was ok as you were planning to collect tickets at the theatre as they had not sent them. We are renovating two rooms on each floor of the hotel but are careful to ensure work does not happen at weekends and before 9am or after 5pm through the week and have had no complaints regarding this for the last 7 weeks. I hope that despite your issues that you will return to us again in the future. Best regards, Dale MacPhee

Nice stay in edinburgh

Posted 26-Mar-2016
Loved the hotel, however my elderly father could not manage the long walk from the rooms at one end of the hotel to the only lift at the other end of the hotel. Make sure you get a room by the lift if you're traveling with someone who has trouble walking.

Thank you kindly for your recent review of your stay with us. I am sorry that your father had such a long walk, I am sure had you mentioned this would be an issue then we could have arranged a move to a room closer to the elevator. Please do come back soon. Weekend in Edinburgh

Posted 23-Mar-2016
Pros: From arrival to departure the staff were well trained, polite and very helpful.
Cons: A couple of maint issues in the bathroom of our room, but nothing that upset our stay. Better information on parking facilities when booking.
Location: Just at the bottom of Princes St, perfect location for the great shopping, the bars on Rose St. the restaurants on George St. Walk to the Royal Mile.
We had difficulty finding the entrance to the hotel while driving, but after we had, the total experience was wonderful. Beautiful hotel, well maintained and the staff were its biggest asset. Highly recommend NOT to drive into Edinburgh if at all possible, leave the car at home or park outside the city, if you do venture in, forget the SATNAV as it is totally useless in this city due to the changes to the one way systems that are constantly changing. We missed the hotel entrance by being in the wrong lane, it took us the best part of an hour to find our way back around and to get into the entrance lane, this was not without some moments with impatient taxi and tram drivers. The parking at the hotel turned out to be good, valet parked for two nights, total costs was £39.00, plus you really do feel obliged to tip the doorman / valet parking attendant so that costs of the parking to us was over £50.00 when these costs are added in.

TOP HOTEL THAT DIDN'T QUITE GET THERE !

Posted 21-Mar-2016
Pros: Excellent building, very good staff, cleanliness, the standard of the room, and the facilities.
Cons: A root and branch review of the hot breakfast offer. A real disappointment , which did not match the price of , and the standard of this hotel.
Location: Excellent location , at the end of Princes Street. Hop on/Hop off tour of course, plus a visit to the Castle, and The Royal Britannia Ship.
A three day stay at clearly a very good hotel , but at top prices , expectations are very high. Therefore, we were disappointed with two things , the High Tea , which was not top quality , and the breakfasts which were disappointing. The range was good , but the bacon was overcooked, mushrooms similarly, and the small Cumberland sausages tasteless. A request for a fresh tomato to accompany my wife's breakfast, arrived 20 minutes later , and after she had finished eating. The waiter apologised, saying the chef was very busy ! The cleanliness, staff , the room, the facilities were of the best standard, but because of the poor breakfasts , we decided that we would not go for dinner at the hotel in the evening, something we normally do when staying away.

Posted 13-Mar-2016
Pros: Location and most comfortable bed ever
Cons: Nothing
Location: Central location near all the sites. Very close to Rose street with pubs and restaurants. We really like a small French restaurant called L'escargo
Excellent hotel with attentive staff and great facilities. Close to everything!
