Fabulous hotel in perfect position

Pros: The staff, the concierge was very helpful in arranging taxis and alternative restaurants.
Cons: Possibly the decor, it is a little dated now
Location: Very close to shops, restraints and Edinburgh castle and a short walk to the bus tour stop.
We upgraded our room to a castle view, large king size bed but was quite a walk to get to it. Wonderful restaurant and the breakfast was superb. Afternoon tea a bit pricey but it is the Astoria after all!

5 Star service

Pros: The service was impeccable.
Cons: Put a bigger sign outside the hotel. to showcase the Waldorf Astoria - not the Caledonian.
Location: Ideal for our visit to the theatre with the taxi rank outside and a very pleasant walk along Princes Street in the morning - albeit wet and windy(:)
A couple of things: the air conditioning took a little time to work satisfactorily. It was a bitterly cold day on arrival, and the room could have been a bit warmer. Secondly, there was no shaving mirror and for someone like myself using the large mirror was useless as I'm shortsighted. Service in the hotel was exceptional - everywhere

Good Location

Pros: The Location
Cons: The restaurants should serve more homely food. They strive to give a fine dining experience but fall very short.
Great location but the room was very small and the restaurants especially were way over priced. A bottle of water in the lounge area cost 5.25 pounds which was a total rip off. The restaurants are quite pretentious, having a french theme and serving food that looks great but doesn't necessarily taste great. The one meal I ate started off with french onion soup which was the highlight of the meal. The main course was a burger with an inedible bun. My partner actually thought the bun was a baked potato as it was so hard. The burger itself was a dry mincemeat that could be bettered in any high street burger chain. The dessert was a disappointment also. The bill amounted to over 105.00 pounds for this dining disaster. The staff did inquire about our meal and we told them it was a disaster and we did receive an apology but that's all. We are from Dublin so know a little about over pricing but this took it to a whole new level.

A perfect place to stay for any age

We arrived early afternoon and the room was not quite ready yet,we went to the bar and had a lovely cocktail the room was nice with a lovely view of princess street and the castle,breakfast was fantastic,overall our stay was great

Pros: Localização perfeita, sem barulho, equipe extremamente educada e atenciosa, bem conservado e com mobiliário novo. Limpeza boa dos quartos tb e confort
Cons: única coisa é que algumas paredes estao batidas de malas e poderiam ser pintadas pra dar aparência de mais bem cuidado

Great location

A very good hotel, great location, lovely room, only criticism would be breakfast staff looked a bit flustered, had to chase staff to get coffee, then never offered a refill.

Wonderful old hotel with a deep history.

Pros: Historic architectural details, spacious hallways, friendly and efficient staff, solidly built.
Cons: Does not accommodate customers bringing 110 volt appliances. I brought 4 transformers, but there were too few outlets available. Light or toothbrush!
Location: The area has many fine restaurants, and myriad activities. Many more are within walking distance. Trams and busses abound.
I have been staying there for 30 years, on and off, loyal,during its hard days when sraff would put out scores of buckets the ciling leaked. This visit, during day, the room was cold and the barhtoom freezing! Room service Vining G rffecff

GREAT HOTEL

Pros: Location, breakfasts, rooms
Location: Great location near Edinburgh Castle. Close to great restaurants and shops
Great hotel with excellent location. Nice rooms with beautiful views. Staff super friendly. Great breakfasts! Super nice spa and pool!

Nice hotel close to amenities

Pros: Proximity to shops and transportation.
Cons: Probably provide more than 2 pillows on the bed and someone to help with luggage at the entrance of the hotel. Of course during reasonable hours.
Location: Within walking distance to Waverly station. A lot of shops nearby and there's also a 24hrs McDonald's just across the hotel.
Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights on 19Dec-22Dec. We arrived at Waverly station and the hotel is within walking distance which is really helpful with two heavy luggage. Upon reaching the hotel, no one was infront of the hotel so we were struggling to lug our luggage inside and we arrived before 7pm. Check in was fast and smooth. Staff was friendly and provided us with information which we wanted to know. Room is of a normal size. Nice decor...however, the mattress was a tad too hard for our liking and the pillow too soft. Hotel is very close to Edinburgh castle and shops. Very convenient since it's our first time visiting the city/ We walked to almost everywhere and it's an easy return to the hotel. Overall, we had a pleasant stay in Edinburgh despite the freezing weather.
