Great position

Posted 24-Aug-2016
Pros: Comfortable and decent breakfast.
Cons: Reception on first floor so flight of steps from street and no lift. Difficult for not so fit. Help with luggage available. Lift to
Location: See above
Opposite Princess Street Gardens. Waverley Station, ideal for both New Town and Old Town. In festival time a good place to stop and handy for the sights and local buses and trams.

Very basic hotel in a great location

Posted 22-Aug-2016
Pros: Location
This is a very basic hotel in a great location. There are no additional amenities - no spare toothbrushes or phone charges which might be required if your luggage didn't arrive when you did. The rooms are clean, the staff are professional and the location is excellent.

Great location, but ...

Posted 20-Aug-2016
Steps to hotel: OK. Steps down into room: too much. The room was so noisy that we thought a window was open, but it wasn't. Our afternoon scotch in the bar was very nice and the bar's coffee at 4 AM was great.

Die Lage des Hotels ist sehr gut.

Posted 15-Aug-2016
Pros: Die Lage des Hotels, die Freundlichkeit des Personals. Das Frühstück war sehr gut.
Cons: siehe oben Zimmerservice.

The hotel is right in the heart of Edinburgh

Posted 15-Aug-2016
Pros: Location
Cons: It's a bit tired
Location: Central location
We got the Tram from the airport, which was very easy and the stop was very close to the hotel. This hotel is in a good central location.

Hotel is in the excellent location - facing the Edinburgh castle, easy walk to Royal Mile and New Town. Nice room. Staff is helpful but there were few issues when they were not diligent in their services.

Close to Waverly Train Station

Posted 11-Aug-2016
Pros: Spacious room and location
Cons: Dated rooms, the price for the laundering services is a little expensive.
Location: Close to both New Town and Old Town and right across the street from Prince Street Gardens and Waverly Train Station.
We stayed 2 nights at the Old Waverley and overall we enjoyed our stay. We did not eat in the restaurants or order room service, so I cannot comment on that. Our main complaint is that when you enter from the street, you have to walk up stairs to the next floor to check in. In all fairness, they do have a bell in which you can call a porter to take your bags up the stairs, but we didn't do that. The hotel location is central to Waverley Train Station, the Castle, and Holyrood Palace on Princes Street, but closer to New Town. However, at night unless you walk to George Street, you are not close to any sort of nightlife or pubs. Since we had our 10 year old son travelling with us, it didn't matter to us. After walking from the Underground Vaults and Canongate tour, it was rather late and there was not anything around the hotel that was really open. The room itself was very spacious and clean, albeit a little dated. If you have a car, this hotel does not have a car park. I was going to have my clothes laundered, but the price per item is prohibitive. There is a launderette about a mile away, which you can take the 22 or 25 bus for a straight shot.

Comfy hotel central to main attractions

Posted 07-Aug-2016
Arrived early and our luggage was stored by the hotel until the room was ready for check in. We were allowed to check in earlier too. There are stairs broken by small landings to the main reception from outside and one lift in the hotel to get about if struggling with all the stairs. Evening meals were reasonable in the bar area of the lounge starting at around £5. The restaurant was more expensive. Breakfast was a buffet at £11.95, £6 for children with cooked (lovely) food or croissant, fruit, yoghurt, juice, tea and coffee, cereal etc. The room was very comfy with a lovely bathroom. Very clean and fantastic views over princes street right infrint of scots monument. Single glazing meant the bag pipes did drone on a bit outside the window but we found the street was quite quiet at night and were not disturbed as much as expected. Staff were friendly and helpful and carried our luggage up the stairs to the reception area from outside. I did have to leave a 'deposit' of £25 on my card in case of room damage. This type of payment is never actually debited however or taken from the card or shows on the bank statement unless of course you leave the room with damage. Ideal spot when coming off the train at Waverley station as straight to hotel and central for everything.
