Reception - bit of a nightmare

Arrived, completed standard guest details form, asked if would be ordering anything during our stay, stated we wouldn't. Asked for credit card details in case we do. Stated we wouldn't be having anything as we'd be off to the theatre. Informed it was company policy to have credit card details & payment of £25.00 in case the room was damaged. Booking was fully paid prior to arrival. Asked for a full refund as we would book in somewhere else but was handed our room key. Not the best start to our stay to say the least.

Overall good - but heating needs sorting

Stayed only for one night , as we were travelling around Scotland, booked a suite , rooms were large and nicely furnished, bathroom was clean but in need of a refurbishment, wash basin cracked and poorly repaired, bath looking shabby. We ate in the bistro, food and service was excellent, both dinner and breakfast. Overall a nice experience. Down side , the heating only came on at 6.00 pm and had gone off by 9.30 , the room was freezing cold by the time we returned after dinner and it wasn’t possible to sit and watch the tv , so disappointing not to use the suite we had paid for.

My husband and I chose to stay for 2days at Melville Castle to finish off our 2 week travels around the Highlands. It was an excellent choice. We booked the first floor suite and were able to drive our car around to the back of the castle to our back door. This made for easy access to carry in our luggage and provided us a lovely view of the grand fountain and horses that grazed in the green pasture beyond. The room was just lovely, very comfortable four poster bed and a sitting room with a television. It had a clean bathroom and a shower that was the best we had in all the places we had previously stayed in. The bar and library were

The hotel is secluded enough so you feel that you’re away from the world yet actually only a 30 minute bus ride from the city centre and within walking distance of attractions anyway. Would recommend having a car if spending time away from the castle, but if you’re looking to relax, eat great food and enjoy a few drinks then the property does the job. The staff are amazing, wasn’t our first stay and they seem to have staff that have been employed a while, which can tell you a lot about a place. The food is excellent, a wee bit pricy as is the bar but no more so than most places in the city centre would be. Breakfast selection is great too. Only down side is the WiFi came and went quite a bit, in our room at least, and as you’re quite secluded it’s difficult to get phone signal if you’re trying to connect with 4G etc. But in a way it lends to the rustic setting and surroundings to be offline for a bit. Would stay again in a heartbeat.
