Location excellent but run down and poor service

Posted 25-May-2017
Room with an ocean view No cold water in the bath sink. Told staff who said it was fixed while at dinner. Wasn't fix. Brushed teeth in bathtub. Floor tile in the next room was loose. Went to the lounge for drink. It took 10 minutes to get menu, another 15 to get a drink and it wasn't busy. Staff were polite but ineffective Chair and couch fabric all worn on arms and seat fabric stained.

Posted 27-Feb-2017
Pros: Restaurant traditional leisure club facilities good
Cons: As above
Location: Many & varied
Breajfast was super, staff very attentive however reception staff need to remember who pays their wages & stop being superior but after 43 years in the catering industry things dont change

Very nice location with sea view

Posted 18-Nov-2016
Lovely hotel by the sea. Great staff at reception, bar, restaurant. Excellent food in restaurant, great walks. Only disappointment was that they did not/ have room upgrade, as promised by Expedia. Would go back.

Fabulous view!

Posted 24-Oct-2016
Pros: Loved the spa with its hydrotherapy (jacuzzi) steam rooms etc. Breakfast was also great with the most delicious smoked salmon served with the best scrambled eggs. Also the breakfast room has the most amazing view If you can get a window table.
Cons: The rooms could do with a facelift but we really didn't spend too much time in the room. The view from our room made up for it.
Location: Beautiful beach walks right from the door. We also loved North Berwick and some of the shops and restaurants, particularly Herringbone Bistro.

A little disappointed.

Posted 20-Sep-2016 on Hotels
We have stayed here before as we have friends in North Berwick. The town is lovely but unfortunately has very few hotels. The marine is a large hotel that is a little tired and dated. Our room was small and over crowded with furniture, in fact to use the switch for the bathroom you had to put your hand down the side of the wardrobe. The tea/ coffee tray was on the top shelf of the wardrobe and very awkward to get down, there was only one spare plug in the room so this meant putting the kettle on the floor if you wanted a hot drink. Not ideal and could be dangerous. The bathroom was modern but again very small and could be difficult to get into the shower/ bath for elderly or the less mobile. There was no anti slip mat provided and the plug hole was full of hair! The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and the staff were very pleasant. The hotel has lovely views over the golf course and the sea, is within a few minutes walk of the town and the station where there is a regular service to Edinburgh.

Great setting but outdated and expensive.

Posted 19-Sep-2016
Pros: Views and staff. Bed very comfortable.
Cons: Furnishings in suite need updating and bathroom needs replacing
Location: . Good walks on beach. Golf course just at perimeter of hotel. Stunning view across Firth of Forth.
Lovely spacious suite but furniture needs updating and bath too small. Beautiful scenery across golf course to beach. Restaurant very pricey. Do not request a well done steak it was like eating charcoal. £34.00 for a bottle of Rioja which would retail in the supermarket for £9.00 was very excessive.. Staff were polite, friendly, and helpful.
