Return visit to an old favourite!

Posted 28-Jan-2016
Pros: Its amazing situation & luxurious spa.
Cons: Quantities of some of the main courses served at dinner.
Location: Coastal walking. Cycling. Beaches. There is a station at North Berwick, opening up lots of opportunities. Flight museum & bird life centre close by.
30 years on this hotel still remains a firm favourite. Superbly situated beside the sea, giving access to miles of beautiful sandy beaches & coves, it is a wonderful base for coastal walking.Upon return, or in poor weather, the hotel spa is the best we have come across! There are so many varied experiences, the facility never appears crowded. The swimming pool is huge and we loved the indoor/outdoor hydro pool, equipped with an optional massage by hot waterfall. The staff are all friendly & helpful & the accommodation clean & comfortable. The food is delicious, but more thought needs to be given to the quantity of some of the main courses (my husband was given a helping of meat & four small carrots, insufficient for a hungry man, whereas I enjoyed venison steak, vegetable & mash). On our first night, the meal progressed smoothly, but on the Monday, (25th.Jan.) there were very long waits between courses. The waiters were hard-working & energetic, which left us wondering whether the kitchen was understaffed. But, all in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay & can't wait to go back.

Lovely Hotel.

Pros: N/a
Cons: As above
Location: Lovely walks along the beach and good restaurants , at good prices, Zitto,s and the Grange highly recommend.
The sandwiches for one and two glasses of wine came too £28.20😢😢😢😢 for 4 halves of bread and ham , ridiculous. We have stayed here many times over the years with our employer Norbulk Shipping. Who had their annual dance their every year, but stopped going, a few years ago, now I understand why , the bar prices are extortionit.

Nice hotel great spa

Posted 13-Dec-2015
Hotel itself was very comfortable. We had a dog with us which was a great place to stay with as it was so easy to just walk out into the beach, however we have never stayed anywhere that charged £25 per night for the dog!!!!! Food was good in the restaurant, best cheesecake ever. Has a afternoon in the spa with the £50 offer, it was well worth it. We did have to rush lunch though as we had pre ordered it because we were short on time. We still had to wait 30 mins for it to arrive. We were told because everything is done from fresh, but when it arrived they brought 1 chicken and 1 salmon when I said we wanted 2 chicken he said it would only take a minute to change it. They need to be consistent with their stories! The room was far to hot and there seemed to be no way to adjust the heat, we didn't have the radiator on.

Comfort and charm with sea view

Very comfortable stay at this hotel. Worth paying extra or upgrading to a room with a sea view. The only disappointment was very expensive but underwhelming room service. Having said that the chips were excellent.

Slightly tired with elements of old world charm

Posted 27-Oct-2015
Pros: Staff, atmosphere, location
Cons: Maintenance, bar service
Location: Only had time for a stroll across the golf course to the adjacent beach - very pleasant.
My wife and I booked and stayed for only one night. We found the reception staff to be friendly and efficient. In the room the very heavy, upper hinge of the heavy, glass shower screen panel on the bath was about to part company from the door. I reported it and am sure it would have been seen to before the room was re-let. I did not find the bed comfortable. Drawing the window curtains blocked off the radiator. The service in the bar where we stayed for several drinks took far too long. Are bar staff these days trained to avoid eye-contact and not to notice empty glasses? There was no haddock for fish and chips and the pollock offered as a substitute was pretty dire. At 09.30 the restaurant was very busy but soon emptied. It took 40 minutes to get the cooked breakfast. There was a good ambience and staff were unfailingly polite.

Pros: The spa is great . The situation of the hotel is great for walks on the beach and of course for the golf . It is a nice olde worldy hotel
Cons: I realise the problems associated with older buildings but to keep its standards high they must listen to the complaints and suggestions of the guests
Location: It sits a short walk across a golf course from a beautiful beech and within walking distance of the High St .
This was our third stay at this hotel over a number of years and unfortunately it didn't live up to its previous high standards . There were 3 grounds for complaint . Firstly we had bother with our radiators , whether this was down to us not operating the controls properly or not it was only resolved on the 2nd time of complaining when an electrical heater was placed in our room although the radiator did in fact come on later that night . Our second complaint was due to the poor condition of the window in our room ( room 206 ) which led to the window making such a racket when the wind blew that it was almost impossible to sleep ! We had 2 windy nights during our 3 night stay and so ended up very tired by the time we were returning home ! We did only complain about this on checking out but only received a half hearted response that it would be reported to the manager . In my complaint I had said that in my opinion until such time as the window is fixed the room should not be let out during bad weather or on windy days which taking into account the position of the hotel would be frequent but again this suggestion did not seem to be taken seriously however I think if the hotel staff or manager had to spend a night in that room they might realise the seriousness of the problem ! Lastly my third complaint relates to the restaurant and in particular to the lack of vegetarian sausages in the vegetarian breakfast The staff did apologise but to be without for 3 days is bad

Bra och mindre bra...

Posted 21-Oct-2015 on Hotels
Rummen som alltid mycket bra. Vakna varje morgon pigg. Middagen tyvärr under all kritik. Varje måltid väldigt dålig och storleken mindre än en barnportion.
