Hotel comfortable

Posted 26-Feb-2017
Well located, comfortable hotel. The room was clean and well presented. However the public areas are a little tired and aroma in the foyer was a little off putting. Shame as this was the first and lasting impression, which could easily be rectified.

Scottish hotel, with a pool

Posted 25-Feb-2017
Eveeytime we visit Edinburgh we stay in this hotel. It can be a little expensive, but it's worth it! Nice and central to the city, walking distance to everything you need and a underground swimming pool! In Scotland! Such an unexpected bonus. We used it everyday day we stayed, morning or night, it was especially nice after our climb of Arthur's Seat - which is walking distance to the hotel. Staff were incredible! Very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly (even struck up conversations with the room cleaners while waiting for the lift, letting us know the weather outside in a friendly and conversational way).

Macdonald Holyrood Hotel

Posted 21-Feb-2017
Pros: The room was very clean and equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Close to where we wanted to be and had a lovely dining room.
Location: Within walking distance to the Royal Mile and sights
Lovely hotel and wonderful staff...I would not want to stay anywhere else if I ever get to Edinburgh again.

Comfortable & well maintained hotel near old town

Posted 10-Feb-2017
Pros: Very accommodating staff
Cons: n/a
Location: Within walking distance of the historic parts of town with tons of restaurants nearby
Room was comfortable/clean and staff very friendly. They accommodated all of our requests including loaning us a charger, providing slippers, providing a vegan breakfast, changing currency and early check-out with breakfast to go. Could not recommend highly enough!

Happy

Posted 18-Dec-2016
Pros: Friendly,good service,good food.
Cons: Nothing,all good.
Location: Its about a 15 minute walk from Waverley train station, never too far away from anything you want to do in Edinburgh.
Nice Hotel, lovely welcome. Clean room and breakfast was VERY good,I would say the best breakfast I have had from a hotel. Worth the money and my wife and I agreed we would stay there again, when we visit Edinburgh.

Good stay 4 conference (except parking & breakfast

Posted 17-Dec-2016 on Hotels
The hotel is great and staff are really vey well trained and professional. The room rate for Edinburgh are good and the gym is small but well equipped with a good mix of machines and weights. The 12mtr pool sauna and steam bath are all great too. I do have 2 big negatives though;- 1. Parking is £20 per night. However don't park there!! Between 18.30 hrs and 8.30hrs you can park on a single yellow line for free. Outside of this you can park in an NCP car park across the road where 1st 3 hours cost just £3.00 2. Breakfast is ridiculously priced. It's the most expensive hotel breakfast I have ever experienced at £19. Again don't pay it. Go out of the hotel, turn right and 100 metres on the right is a cafe that does a decent full breakfast at £8.95

On line the hotel looked perfect!

Posted 15-Dec-2016
Pros: See above
Cons: See above
Location: Location was ok, many hotels are more centrally located however.
The room was comfortable but not at all like the ones shown on the website. The room itself was clean. The shower head however was appalling. Black build up of mould. I requested it was corrected and after a long day out we returned to no change. Further request to have it corrected led to a new shower head being fitted. Clearly the hotel does not follow legionella cleaning sceduleds adequately. For the price paid I have to say I was disappointed and wouldn't return.
