Great value & location

Posted 16-Jul-2017
You'd usually expect to have to make compromises for a hotel this well located within easy walking distance of the centre of town, but I'm struggling to find any complaints. The double room was large as advertised; facilities (incl. gym) were excellent for a short stay; and staff were top notch. When I return to Edinburgh, I'll be looking this place up first.

Visiting Edinburgh

Posted 13-Jul-2017
Location: perfect for walkers
This Hotel is in the middle of everything you may want to do while spending a week in Edinburgh. You can walk every where. so, if, walking around the streets in a city that makes you feel like you are in a Charles Dickens Novel is up your ally then this hotel is the answer. Half mile or less from, Holyroodhouse, Arthurs seat, Royal mile, Edinburgh Castle, easy walks to Scott's Memorial and the trains for adventures out to the coast or anywhere in Scotland. Maybe a bit expensive but get the breakfast option at thei 4 star hotel and settle in with a great front desk staff that can not do enough for you

Nice Hotel Close to the Royal Mile

Posted 12-Jul-2017
We enjoyed our stay in a "feature king" room at the Macdonald Holyrood. The room was quiet, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious. However, the rooms are not air conditioned and we did find the air in the room to be a bit stuffy at night. We requested a fan which provided the comfort we needed.

Nice Hotel close to the Holyrood castle

Posted 11-Jul-2017
Pros: Clean hotel. Excellent staff - Jennifer Scott.
Location: Close to Holyrood palace, Scottish royal residence, planet earth and at the other end of the Royal mile (opposite to Edinburgh castle). Free museums.
Excellent, considerate and helpful staff. Convenient for the Duke of Edinburgh, gold award ceremony.

Easy stay, clean hotel. Nothing special to add. It could be a bit cheaper.

Dignified hotel with good service.

Posted 03-Jul-2017
Pros: Gracious surroundings, helpful and efficient staff, lovely room. Very convenient location.
Cons: Room was stuffy and too warm. Air-conditioning has been decommissioned! I was offered and accepted a fan, which improved the situation.
Location: Close to Holyrood, Parliament and the hop-on hop-off bus route. If you're keen, the hike up Arthur's Seat is nearby, too.
Stylish entrance, good service at reception. Large, beautifully appointed and tastefully decorated room As in all UK hotels where I stayed, the room was too warm and not air-conditioned, and the bed was made with a heavy duvet, not suitable for summer. Both problems were dealt with by staff. Breakfast service and choice were good. Bar menu was fairly typical, but with better service. Refreshing to be served by staff who serve correctly, but are still friendly.

Wonderful stay in Edinburgh

Posted 30-Jun-2017
We stayed in this hotel for six days and just loved it, the room was spacious and comfortable, the staff was very helpful and the food was delicious. It was really convenient to visiting all areas of Edinburgh, and we loved being near Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat.

Nice hotel close to Royal Mile

Posted 26-Jun-2017
Pros: The friendliness of the staff was this hotels greatest asset but the hotel itself is al lovely place to stay
Cons: Air conditioning didn't work too well in our room
Location: Over the road from Our Dynamic earth, 2 minutes from the Royal Mile & so close to all of Edinburgh's attractions
Hotel staff very friendly, we were able to check in slightly early as the room was ready. Concierge staff were extremely helpful about local sights & places to see & ordering taxis for us. Rooms were clean & comfortable, the bed was comfy with nice bedding. Bathroom was clean. Concierge looked after our cases after checkout until we left Edinburgh. Bar area comfortable.
