Hotel in a nice area

Pros: the area
Cons: earlier opening times the pool to have a good swim before breakfast on Sunday especially on Sunday
Location: open bus tour stops right at the end of the royal mile for shops
Lovely welcome, had a upgrade to the room which was very nice, also a birthday glass of bubbly, All of the staff including the room staff were very helpful especially the one for room 501 Friday night .

Excellent conveniently located hotel

Great welcome. concierge takes care of your car immediately on arrival. Rooms are great as is every aspect of the service. Staff found a mobile charger as had forgotten my own etc etc The hotel is 5 mins walk from the Royal Mile and all Edinburgh’s other attractions. Highly recommend

Great location with a Scottish flare!

My family and I stayed at this lovely hotel during our recent visit to Scotland. Staff was very accommodating to hold our luggage during our tour to the Isles of Sky. Staff was very courteous and went out of their way to make us feel welcome! Breakfast was delicious as well. looking for a great place to stay in Scotland, Macdonald Holyrood Hotel is the place for you!

Great Hotel for a family visit

Pros: Staff, Location and Quality.
Cons: The pool area could do with a bit of TLC and the room was a little rugged in places, but that is just being picky.
Location: Edinburgh has so many things to see. Arthurs Seat was the highlight for us, take your walking boots if its raining as it can be muddy.
Excellent Hotel, great position, very quiet. We went as a family (8 and 5 Year Old) staying in our room, there was plenty of space for the four of us and the room was very clean. The breakfast was great and the staff were excellent. The Hotel is in a super location, it is easy to get to from the airport - we used Uber - and it is within easy walking distance to everything, from Arthurs Seat to Edinburgh Castle. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any family that wants to visit Edinburgh.

Disappointed

Disappointed Room was nice and spacious. Hot or cold we’re the choices though. Big disappointment no. 1 was breakfast - severe staff shortages. Over cooked food - sent back. Still over cooked. Plate was so hot I burned myself - seriously. Kids were getting these plates too ! It’s not that difficult to poach an egg is it ?? Coffee was cold and so strong it was like tar and the toast, well it was only done on one side. The waiter while setting the table In the bar area as they were too busy in restaurant nearly sat in my knee while stretching across us to set it. NExt morning I tried scrambled eggs but this also met me down !... slop is the best way to describe it ! Others in the party had cooked breakfast but couldn’t stomach the grease ! Really low standard breakfast :( No 2: My 8 year old son put his £20 spending money under his glass and saved it for 2 days. On the 3rd day he came back to find it missing. Ooooh - he cried , and I called to say it had been taken .. The house keeper admitted to taking it as she thought it was a tip. ( it had been there for 2 1/2 days!) A small apology was all I got. Not my son!- If that was my company I’d be compensating the child- at least some sweeties !! Nope. All we received was rudeness. Not happy at all Good things - concierge was friendly and helpful.

I am sorry for the misunderstanding in relation to your sons money. I have spoken with the Housekeeper who serviced your room and she is very embarrassed as she honestly thought it was a tip and as soon as she realised her mistake the money was returned. I can only apologise you felt the team were rude and did not handle the situation to your liking and again it is something I will be sharing with them so we can improve if something like this happens in the future. Great base in the old town

Excellent hotel with lovely rooms and a decent breakfast. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A short 5 minute walk up the hill to the castle and about 15 minutes to Princes street. Nice and quiet too. Only let down were some pretty poor sausages at breakfast!

Ideal location quiet yet only ten minute walk from Royal Mile and Old Town would stay there next time i'm in Edinburgh

No one at reception on arrival at 1.30pm. The helpful concierge managed to get the receptionist to appear apparently reluctant and still eating. We were told simply that our room wasn’t ready and job done she returned to lunch. Unfortunate as the rest of the staff were great.
