Very friendly

Posted 05-Apr-2016
Pros: Late serving of food and drink, friendly staff
Cons: Bathroom tiles were looking tired required refreshing.
Location: Great location to use public transport into Edinburgh centre
Arrived late 10.30pm and we were still able to have food in the bar, all staff were friendly bar, reception and housekeeping.

With work so a fleeting visit. Free drink on completion of questionnaire on arrival was a nice touch. Bar service was good. Food just OK.

Tiny room

Posted 21-Mar-2016
Pros: Lovely staff, good food
Cons: Lack of space, overheated rooms
Location: Next door to Edinburgh Zoo
We stayed in room 107 and it was tiny - so much so that you had to squeeze into the space at the side of the toilet to shut the bathroom door. Staff were lovely, the restaurant was fine, but the lack of space means we won't stay here again.

Nice hotel right next to the zoo

Posted 21-Mar-2016
Lovely modern hotel, swimming pool and bubble rub really clean and lovely, if you are in a zoo facing room be prepared for the howler monkey dawn chorus :-) (which came as an entertaining surprise)

A mixed experience

Posted 12-Mar-2016
Pros: The staff were all friendly.
Cons: Rooms at the back of hotel need updating and heating to work. Parent and child parking spaces - after all it is a family hotel.
Location: The zoo is right next door.
Parking is very limited on the same level as reception. As I was arriving first with my young baby, this was a problem as there was no parking with step free access to the hotel as all the spaces were full. Perhaps some parent and child spaces could be provided? Staff were friendly and efficient at check in, but we were allocated our family room at the back wing of the hotel which is shabbier than the main hotel and in need of updating. The bathroom tiles were cracked, the room sparse, the light above the bed broken, but worst of all it was cold. The air conditioning would not heat the room. After realising this was faulty we asked to be moved rooms. The new room in the main hotel was nicer - and had a radiator!! Why would you not allocate this in the first place!!! We did enjoy our stay in the new room, although still not the standard I would expect from a holiday inn. There's a newer, cheaper budget hotel chain just along the road which is more comfortable.

good location

Posted 09-Mar-2016
Pros: location
Cons: dealing effectively and efficiently with complaints
Location: excellent location 10minutes on bus from directly outside into centre. a mile from murrayfield stadium. right beside zoo.
hotel lacks parking can park in zoo car park but is only free for hotel guests overnight. noisy music playing in another room late at night took staff until midnight to get it stopped. restuarant ok but watch out for service charge - added in there without asking first . pool & jaccuzzi looked good but didnt have time to try them out.

Best option to visit Edinburgh Zoo

Posted 08-Mar-2016
Pros: Proximity to Zoo. Accessibility to public transport.
Cons: Rooms could be slightly larger. Breakfast buffet option with booking will be great.
Location: Zoo is right next door. 15 minutes ride into city brings you to the centre of all attractions in city.
Our main purpose was to visit zoo. This is the best option for it. Room was rather small is size as compared to many other hotels I have stayed with this star rating. Bathroom was also small. But it serves the purpose of just walking across the building to zoo next door. Well connected to city as well as airport. Airport link 100 bus stops right in front of hotel as do the other buses. Very good restaurant with good seating capacity. Attached gym and swimming pool also provides a good option on the healthy living front. Overall a good hotel.
