Lovely hotel but rooms are too dark

Posted 23-Oct-2016
Location: Restaurants close by. Fairly close to the airport.
We stayed here for two nights. We wanted something fairly close to the airport. It was a lovely hotel and the staff was very nice. Jeannie was fantastic. She welcomed us and gave us good suggestions for dinner and things to see in the area. We had a couple of nice chats since she knows someone from Canada. There were a couple of minor maintenance issues in the bathroom (water damage from the shower) but everything was very clean and attractive. Our only problem with this place is the darkness. I didn't mind it in the lobby and it's fine in the rooms if you just want to watch tv but unfortunately, it is terrible to try to put on your makeup or do your hair. We couldn't see the thermostat without using our cell phones for light. For us, this is a huge issue and is enough that we wouldn't stay here again or recommend it. The room might be ok for someone who hops in the shower and then just goes but not for someone who needs to do their hair and makeup. Hotel is very quiet and comfortable.

Not your typical hotel...that's a great thing!

Posted 21-Oct-2016
We booked a room for one night upon arriving in Edinburgh for the week. One night to ourselves before spending our time with friends in a flat. I picked Dakota off Expedia reviews and was not disappointed. A short 20 minute Uber from the airport to the hotel. A modern, dark square glass building was incredibly warm and welcoming. Staff were all wonderful and the decor quite nice! We were in room 504, top floor and very nice. Took a second to figure out all the lights and we were unable to master the AC controls but it was a tad warm. I did love the decor, colors and feel of the space. I was even more surprised to see our room faced the motorway in the morning. We could not hear a speck of road noise. Bathroom and toiletries were very nice but the double bed was not very comfortable for us. Only one towel in the bathroom left me with a hand towel to dry off. Not sure why the second towel is stored in a drawer under the bed. Stay at Dakota, the staff and hotel will delight you.

Not by the airport

Posted 12-Oct-2016
Pros: Comfortable and nicely appointed
Cons: More information about location and airport access. Had I known I would have stayed by the airport.
Location: good restaurant choices along the Firth of Fourth within a ten minute walk
This is a great hotel close to some good restaurants in a scenic location. However, it is not at all close to the airport. I wanted to return my rental car and go to the hotel for an early departure flight. That turned out to be a major hassle with the hotel being very difficult and time consuming to get to. They have only a limited shuttle service during the day and none at night. If you know that and can plan accordingly it is a fine [lace to stay.

Quite a disappointment.

Posted 03-Oct-2016
Pros: Good quality bed. Nicely appointed bath.
Cons: Advertising should make clear that the shuttle only runs Monday-Friday. Otherwise, it's long taxi rides and Delmany Train Station > 1 mile away.
Location: Delmany Train Station is over a mile away.
We chose this out-of-the-way hotel for its convenient and free and prominently advertised airport shuttles only to learn upon arrival that the shuttles don't operate on the weekends. There is a tiny disclaimer hidden on the hotel's website but mentioned nowhere on Expedia. Hotel staff did not respond to email inquiries in advance. We had an early morning flight and requested a wake-up call. The wake-up call never happened but fortunately we had set a phone alarm as back-up and were able to make our flight. We paid a hefty sum for the room (more expensive than any other we stayed at in Edinburgh), than paid an additional hefty sum for taxis (might be the only location in Edinburgh where public transport is unavailable), and then the staff told us we would be charged several pounds for borrowing an adapter. What a rip-off!

Comfy Bed and Amazing Cookies!

Posted 28-Sep-2016
Pros: The bed and cookies!
Cons: The shower had some mold.
Location: Just went to Burger King!
Only here for about 12 hours so it was great for that. Bed was super comfortable, hotel is kind of dark but in a good way. The location is like American suburbia so if we hadn't stayed in town earlier in our trip for four days I would have been disappointed because it doesn't feel like Edinburgh. If you are here for a night it's great, shuttle to the airport is very convenient.

Perfect overnight stay

Posted 18-Sep-2016
We stayed for 1 night before an early flight at ediburgh airport, not too far away but definitely better value and superior quality compared to the standard airport hotels.

Close to airport.

Posted 14-Sep-2016
Location: A few places to eat and a grocery store very close.
We enjoyed our stay for one night. We went next door to the Italian restraunt and had a few good laughs with the manager and staff.

Nice hotel near Airport

Posted 13-Sep-2016
Nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are a little dark, but not necessarily a bad thing if you want a good night sleep. Would definitely recommend as a quick one or two night stop. However, be careful being drawn to this hotel by the "free" shuttle to airport. It might be free, but very inconvenient. Doesn't operation on weekends, doesn't have an early departure if you need to leave before 6am and your have to schedule your seat.

Good location.

Everything about this hotel is good. A big bonus is the access to transport links
