short break

Posted 11-Sep-2017
Pros: Location and convenience we walked to the Winter gardens in the evening
Cons: Decoration needs face lift
Location: Short drive to Beachy Head and Seven sisters.
Good location although loud music from the bandstand fortunately finished at 9.30pm. Very pleasant walk along the promenade to the pier. Good breakfast although they could have provided more fresh fruit instead of tinned. Liked the off-street parking for £1 a day. Very relaxing stay

Easy check-in and check-out, friendly staff, we didn't eat at the hotel but the dining area looked very nice.

Difficult to get parking space

Posted 30-Aug-2017
Pros: It had character. Also I though the staff were very helpful.
Hotel was quite pleasant. we were given single beds, but really wanted a double bed. Parking was difficult to find. But we still enjoyed our stay.

Room with a view

Posted 29-Aug-2017
Pros: Good location, good restaurant and bar
Cons: Rooms on the sunny side could benefit from air conditioning, or air cooler units
Location: Right on the sea front, walking distance to the Pier and local shops. A road train service runs past the hotel which takes you along the seafront.
Hotel was in a very convenient location for our requirements, with easy access to local transport, and walking distance to the Pier and shops. However, the rooms could have benefitted from air conditioning, as the nights we a little warm.....

Perfect location

Posted 28-Aug-2017
Pros: Location and lovely staff
Cons: Needs a refurb as looking very tired.
Location: Perfect location Sea front Band stand entertainment Bars and restaurants nearby Few minutes walk from town
Lovely sea front hotel, lovely staff, parking to rear for a small fee per day, brilliant breakfast and bar food certainly value for money, our room was spacious and had amazing view over the bandstand and sea. The only criticism would be that the hotel is in dire need of decoration, very tired looking and neglected. Can't praise the staff enough, wonderful job...thank you very much for making our stay so relaxing end enjoyable.

Check-in was smooth and stress-free. The room was exactly what I asked for, the service was outstanding and gage location was excellent for touring the nearby area.

Lovely hotel

Posted 23-Aug-2017
Pros: The overall ambience.
Cons: Bottled water in the room.
Location: Set right on the seafront within easy walking distance of the pier, bandstand and town. Plenty of restaurants close by.
The hotel has changed hands since I last stayed but it has not lost any of its charm. It is well set out with ample space to sit and chat downstairs. The room was very presented and immaculately clean. My only disappointment was that there was no bottled water provided in the room.

A hot property - boiling hot, phew!!

Posted 22-Aug-2017
Pros: The building is superb, to look at. Breakfasts were good. Many of the staff were nice.
Cons: See previous comments.
Location: Great location. Very convenient for most things; seafront, pier, bandstand. Good walk to Beachy head, about 1 hour, Birling gap, about 2 hours, etc.
A very nice old building in a super location just behind the bandstand. This could/would be a superb hotel if the faults were rectified. Many of the staff were indifferent to the guests; other than doing the bare minimum they would scarcely acknowledge your existence. This was particularly true of the reception staff who were almost pointless, or maybe they were just the ones under most pressure. The manager was ok, tried his best, and the breakfast staff were good. We stayed for five days and some of the things that caused a problem or needed addressing are: 1. Bathroom flooded due to rain getting in, roof/wall leaked, had to change rooms. 2. Rooms were constantly at about 35 degrees c or more, had to keep windows open and fans on, no air conditioning, just to stay in the room for any time. Needless to say this made sleeping difficult. 3. Room keys stopped working several times. 4. Wi-Fi stopped working. 5. There was a power cut - probably not the hotels fault - but no backup. 6. Lift only worked intermittently. 7. This hotel is really more like 2 stars than 4 and way too expensive. 8. Need to cheer the staff up or get more of them or something. So mostly we stayed out of the room whenever possible.
