Not so Grand a deal!

Posted 21-Apr-2016
Pros: Breakfast, location.
Cons: See above
When we were contacted by the Grand to confirm our booking, we were told that free parking was available at the Hotel. On arrival, we discovered that there was no free parking but that we had 3 choices: pay £35 to have the car valet parked (if there was no parking, how come there was valet parking?), drive to the local NCP and pay £27 a night or "find somewhere in the city!". This is a hidden and unavoidable charge - beware! It makes the Expedia deal a lot less attractive. No fridge in the room, no minibar. Luke warm water in the morning, no towel rails. Staff pleasant and respectful, breakfast wonderful. But when you are splashing out on staying in the Grand, you expect more, at least I did. When I raised these points to the reception manager, the response was "we'll give you a good deal next time you come". There won't be a next time.

Not sure its really worth the money

Posted 19-Apr-2016
Pros: Its location
Cons: Having rooms ready when they say they will be would be a start. Breakfast very average, invest in decent showers.
Location: Its right on the seafront and in easy walking distance of everything Brighton has to offer.
The Grand really is grand but is it really worth the extras? I'm not so sure if only visiting, as we were, for a one night stay. A long wait before our room was ready - a 3pm check-in was advertised but we couldn't get to it for nearly an hour. Sure the place was busy and it was a Sunday but you expect better from an establishment of this quality. The front desk staff were not particularly helpful in dealing with it. We had a nice sea view room and it was comfortable enough but nothing out of the ordinary, the shower was especially poor being one you step into and the bath in which it was located was very narrow with a shower curtain. They do a better breakfast buffet at any Premier Inn and if you want a kipper or smoked haddock etc there is a hefty supplement. We wouldn't use it again, there are hotels of similar quality and a far lower cost in Brighton.

Nice but not Grand

Posted 16-Apr-2016
Great staff & experience but the classic double room is only meant for singles so a bit of a squeeze for 2. Rooms are tastefully decorated but no sound insulation so pretty noisy. I like it but if value for money is on your list -try the Hilton next door.

Double Room With Breakfast for £105

Posted 14-Apr-2016
Pros: The large room
Cons: Air Con in hotel rooms.
Location: Sea and the Sand.
The hotel room was very big but with no window view. No Air Con in room just a large stand up fan. The bar was nice and open 24 hours a day to hotel guests. Breakfast was self service but was top quality. Early checkout at 11am not Noon like other Hotels. Hotel staff very helpful.

Beautiful hotel with lots of history

Posted 11-Apr-2016
Pros: You were made to feel special upon arrival from the doorman to the reception. Room was ready at 12.30. Lifts were never full and always available.
Cons: The bathroom was very clean but the panel on the bath did a bad job of covering up old fittings. Shower gel should have been included.
Location: Near the beach, local cinema and Brighton IC. Short walk to the indoor shopping centre, theatre and good selection of restaurants.
Had one very pleasant, extremely comfortable night with breakfast included. Good size room with a rather small bathroom that perhaps need a bit of a facelift for a 5* hotel. Other than that room facilities were very good, with a nice selection of complimentary drinks/biscuits. Breakfast was superb and included an unusual selection of fresh/dried fruits/seeds which made lovely change from the ordinary.

Great hotel close to the beach and lanes.

Payed higher price for deluxe room and worth the cost - beautiful views and spacious and comfortable furniture. Second stay here and have not been disappointed. Spa is great too.

Faded glory

Posted 04-Apr-2016
Pros: Most of the staff.
Cons: Decor generally. Modernise bedrooms. 12.00 check-out.
Location: Views of the sea and easy access to esplanade. Move away from the are if you don't appreciate lads/ladette culture and loud pubs.
Check-in was straight-forward but the room was very disappointing. The decor was very dull. Beds comfortable. Bathroom not worthy of a two-star facility. No mini-bar. Free wifi. Breakfast was very good. Most staff were very pleasant (breakfast waiters particularly pleasant and attentive) but some were rude (notably a concierge). The location is great for access to the sea-front but the general area is loud and roughish. 11am check-out early by UK standards. Overall, poor value for money.
