"Elegant hotel, first class staff"
Had a great 2 night stay. Recommended by a friend. Didn't disappoint. Beautiful exterior, and elegant interiors, felt like walking back in time. Notably helpful and friendly staff. Walked to all local attractions from the hotel, including a pleasant walk to Beachy Head. A filling full English buffet breakfast included and dinner at The Garden restaurant was good too. Don't miss out on a cream tea, but book if you can - wanted to have it in the Great Hall, but it was full. Rooms a little dated, but added to the charm.

"Wonderful, historic hotel with huge grounds"
We had a great here. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the hotel building itself is stunning. We visited the very nice pool and spa, the llama farm at the edge of the grounds and went on one of the hotel's detailed walks into the beautiful Ashdown forest. Drinks and food are very expensive, and the restaurant was Ok, rather than fantastic. BUT we had an amazing time and would definitely return here. The staff were brilliant.

"Does the job"
I use the Royal Victoria because it's handy to stay over when I work in St Leonards - so I'm used to its foibles. It is a bit worn round the edges, the beds can be a bit squeaky but embrace the quirkiness - it is what it is - somewhere clean to sleep and always welcoming.

Welcoming friendly staff. Spotlessly clean. No lift, so be prepared to climb lots of stairs if you are on the higher floors. 5 minute walk to pier. Would recommend

My stay in Buxted was probably too short to make other than a superficial judgement of the hotel and its facilities.

Easy check in and parking not too bad. Small but comfortable room. Electricity went off in middle of night and could not be sorted until after we left. No hot water, drinks etc. Spoilt weekend a bit. Got 50per cent refund from nice manager after complained. Would go back again
