Historic charm, beautiful sea views, lovely staff, and lovely return guests who return yearly and are friendly to newcomers. Enticing croquet lawn, swimming pool, warm sea breezes. Delightful.

Quiet clean and charming - but...

Posted 23-Jun-2016 on Hotels
old fashioned hotel - clearly aimed at the "elder" generation - quiet, clean and charming - but just as the hotel itself is a little "old fashioned" - so it seems are the ideas of punctuality and service from the staff...

A ice short break

Posted 23-May-2016 on Hotels
The hotel seems to mainly cater for older people, not a bad thing in itself. Staff were polite. Room was fine. Walk to the town centre about a mile downhill so older would might want to think about the return. Be achy head about a 45 minute walk away (but watch the tide). Eastbourne central a little tatty. All in all, a rather nich short break

Not a Spa Hotel

Posted 16-Mar-2016 on Hotels
I searched online for "Spa/pool/beach/free parking" and the Hydro Hotel came up top. However, this is most definitely NOT a Spa hotel and not what I was looking for... To be honest, the hotel suits its Elderly customers very well – who are definitely in the majority here, so if your after a Young funky Vibe this is most definitely not the place to come. Having said that the service was excellent and apart from the poor Spar facilities and tiny Outside pool, there's nothing 'wrong' with the place. The hydro hotel is a bit like Eastbourne itself.... a bit Victorian with a slow, refined pace of life...definitely for those who prefer to relax by reading quietly in the library after dinner, rather than dance the night away. NB: The hydro is at the top of a fairly steep hill and about 10 min stroll away from the pebbly beach.

Relaxing and enjoying sea view

Posted 16-Mar-2016 on Hotels
My late parents always enjoyed their stay at this hotel no as I was visiting cousins in Eastbourne I found their rates for a single room en suite to be very competitive I was not disappointed and the two night stay was most enjoyable Lovely helpful staff breakfast was delicious and the room more spacious and comfortable than any other single room in a hotel that I have stayed in

Wifi, Wifi where fore art thou Wifi?

Posted 11-Feb-2016
Pros: that I was only there 1 night
Cons: maybe if they entered the 21st Century
Location: it was dark I couldnt see much. Nearest pub serving food was 15 minutes walk
If a hotel advertises "free Wifi" then free wifi it should be in all rooms. Otherwise they should state "maybe not available in certain far flung corners of the hotel". Also, no hot food served in the bar after7:30pm? I was quite surprised to be told "Oh no sir, not at this time of night". Having spent a day in meetings and travelling I did not fancy the Crystal Restaurant ("smart attire, no denim or t-shirts), so denim and t-shirt clad I thought the bar would be a more relaxing option. Imagine my surprise.....

Good stay at the hydro

Have stayed here quite a lot. Usually take my mother. Not really for young families. More of an older clientele. Good value for money. Good food and comfortable room.lively garden and great views of the sea.
