We knew the hotel was likely to be busy as we were attending a large event nearby so arranged to arrive as close to check in time as we could to avoid the rush. This turned out better than we could have expected as we were upgraded to a sea view room and what a view! The old pier ruins against the sunset. The room was clean and comfortable with modern furniture and fittings. The bar area was lovely and had a terrace overlooking the sea for those hardy enough to brave the autumn chill. There was a queue for breakfast but tea and orange juice were available to those queueing and the queue was actually quite fast moving. The breakfast was well worth the wait through, delicious. We found all staff members to be friendly, cheerful and helpful. For those very sensitive to street noise I would recommend either a room with out a sea view or a room on a higher floor as being a historic building there is secondary glazing in the original frames rather than full double glazing. We did not have any issues but if you are very sensitive it might be a problem. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful and grand old hotel.
