"The front desk staff at HI-NYC is on 24/7 and is extremely helpful. I was able to switch my pre-booked reservation from a dormitory room to an available private room with no issues. The hostel is a short walk from the 1 subway station. My room was clean and spacious. Just note the building has an older elevator so give yourself extra time when checking out."

"My stay was a good one. The family is warm and welcoming yet professional. The house is quite large and my rear of the house room (#5) was spacious, secure and comfortable. I am sensitive to noise and always travel with earplugs; they came in handy as the room is right beside the kitchen. Not terribly noisy, but noticeable to me without earplugs. "It was excellent for the solo traveler. I don’t believe it would work for someone in a wheelchair, or with other type of limited mobility. And if you aren’t strong enough to climb up a few little steps on the small ladder to get to a top bunk, you should let them know that when you make a reservation. I stayed in the top bunk this time, and it was super easy to get in and out, but I can see how it might be daunting for somebody else."
