Great hotel and staff. Average food at best
The hotel was amazing and our room was more than what we expected to get upon arrival. Hotel staff was excellent and every one was very friendly from the waiters to the bartenders to the front dest staff. The hotel looks and feels brand new. Staff is constantly working to upkeep everything.
We were there during Hurricane Irma where strong winds blew branches and leaves on the ground and it was cleaned up the very next day.
I stayed in room 110 and we had our own sliding door that led out to a small patio with pool that connected into a larger pool with swim up bar. I would pick this room every time.
The drinks were very good and would often be made 'stronger' by request. They had a ton of options on their drink menu and their menu options were unique. They could also make anything you wanted as long as they had the ingredients.
The only reason we gave this hotel 4/5 was because the food was pretty average and was often the same thing every day. A lot of foods were bland. The buffet's would use a lot of the same foods every day.
The spa in the "Royal" Catalonia was still under construction so we had to use the Catalonia resort connected to "Royal" and the massage we got felt rushed and it was loud and not very relaxing during the massage.
Overall this hotel was an amazing experience & we would definitely stay here again. The fact that the hotel is new may have to do with the lack of menu options. We had a chance to fill out a survey before we left.

Great hotel. Lovely staff. Beautiful beach.
Had a great time at the Catalonia. The staff was excellent. Very friendly. Our housekeeper Reina was excellent. She cleaned our rooms very well. Took care of our needs since we had a toddler with us and was very pleasant. She was one of the best housekeepers I have ever had. Overall the rooms were comfortable. The beach was relaxing. The waiter Casandra by the terrace was always checking on us for drinks and brought fruit for our toddler. Will be visiting this resort in the future.

Nice hotel, good diving
Nice hotel, good beach (though quite crowded), dive center right on the beach.
We stayed in Junior Suite facing the beach, quite comfortable for our family (2 adults and a kid).
Food is good, but not excellent.
Staff is very friendly and nice, willingness to help compensates for lack of organization :)
We enjoyed diving with Dressel Divers, they have good staff and decent equipment. Highly recommend St.George wreck and excursions to Saona and Catalina islands.
Overall, a very good experience. If you are searching for a retreat on a secluded island, this place is not for you. If you like Latin music, rum and cigars, go for it without hesitation.

Fantastic!
We've had a great time at this hotel!
The staff was really friendly! At the reception desk they spoke good enough English. All other staff was always smiling and working hard. The rooms were fine, we stayed in block 9, which was conveniently located close to the pool/beach and restaurant. The buffet restaurant was excellent, lots of choices of fresh foods. Everything we tasted was delicious. We also live in the Caribbean so we know how hard is it to keep everything clean and fresh in high temperatures, but we did not see any cockroach or rat. The waiting time in the restaurant or bar was never long.
The property is very beautiful and well maintained, and the kids loved all the different ducks and birds at the bridges.
The entertainment at night was fun, the kids loved the minidisco with Sugardy and dancing afterwards. We've only been to the theater once, because it started at 10 pm, which was a bit too late for our kids, but we loved the Dominican dances, very professional!
If there's anything that could be improved, I'd advise the hotel to clean the pool more often (especially in the afternoon) and remove the garbage around the pool to avoid the bees coming for your drink (bring or buy a thermos!).
For future guests: try to avoid the well-spoken 'lifestyle vacation' salesguys, they are luring you into a sales meeting with very pushy sales people.
Overall we had a fantastic time and we'd love to come back someday!

Very clean hotel w/ great service. Walk to beach
I wanted to let it known that this is a great small hotel for those looking to enjoy and experience Bayahibe from within. A lot of people opt to go to a big resort and enjoy all those amenities, but when it comes to personalized services and feeling like part of the community, this is the best place to stay at. Close to everything in the small little town of Bayahibe, specially the Public Beach and the boats to go to the different islands. Yes, there are unwanted noises (Roosters, church right next door with loud mics/music, loud motorcycles) but this should enhance your experience not worsen it; and it is truly not that bad as some make it sound. This was our second time here and we absolutely love it. The person that takes care of the reception is actually the owner herself, and she is as friendly and pleasing as they come. She is very helpful and can give you advice about where you can go to have dinner and where you can go to enjoy the best part of Bayahibe. IF you are not ready to experience the true Dominican Culture, I would advise you stay in a resort and pay 5 times or more and do what everyone else does, OR you can really have a great time immersing yourself in the Dominican culture.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone that is on a budget or that just really needs a place to rest and take a shower. Great service with a smile, awesome value, and a a great location. Can't go wrong with that!
