Lovely location by the river. The public rooms were rather careworn but we had a nicely furnished bedroom, large with room for 2 single beds and a double. The only criticism would be the lack of powerpoints for today's phones and tablets but at the price we paid we can't complain too much.

A wedding is supposed to be the best day of your life, so of course you'll want to spend it somewhere special! With its beautiful diverse countryside, lively cosmopolitan cities and amazing wedding hotels and guesthouses, County Durham is a top place to get hitched, whether you're looking for an extravagant wedding ceremony at a magnificent country hall, or something a little more understated at a guesthouse in one of the region' s quaint villages.
Perhaps County Durham has a special place in your heart; did you pop the question watching the sunset from the Durham Heritage Coast? Or maybe it was in the shadow of High Force Waterfall, located in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you made your proposal. Alternatively, you might be unfamiliar with County Durham, and are looking for a corner of England you've not yet visited - well you certainly won't be disappointed by what you discover here!
While its nice spending some time exploring the region, weddings are unlike other holidays as it's usually all about the venue, and anyway you'll only get your wedding dress muddy traipsing up the local trails and cycle-ways! A wedding hotel needs to feel just right - a place where you can imagine spending the best day of your life. Many of the hotels in the region have special wedding packages and services, helping your wedding day go off without a hitch (well, perhaps just one!).
If you're looking for a traditional, fairy-tale wedding then how about getting married in a castle? The stunning Lumley Castle is one of the finest buildings in the region, over 600 years old and set in nine acres of beautiful parkland, this venue is ideal for traditional extravagant ceremonies and receptions. You don't have to go big to have a great wedding day of course, and for many a quaint venue like The Croft Hotel, located in the picturesque village of Crofton-on-Tees, is just the ticket. This lovely hotel has charming tea rooms and is conveniently located for nearby Darlington.
