"Perfect Location"
This was a weekend break for my wife and I without the kids. The hotel is perfectly situated to walk about Durham centre. No more than a ten minute walk to the lively bars in the centre. The hotel itself has some of the friendliest staff I have come across and I stay in a lo of hotels. Room was big with comfortable beds and very clean. The buffet breakfast was brilliant, although I think I over indulged on both mornings (my guilty pleasure). All in all, a great hotel in a great location with fantastic staff.

"Nice hotel - close to Durham City."
Good location- lots of amenities nearby.Nice part of Durham. Good base for seeing surrounding countryside. Newcastle, Sunderland, the North East Coastline, Whitby, Northumberland - only a drive away. It was a good place to stay to visit family members and have a catch up over Easter. Lovely walks by the River Wear. Good food in the Market Place - lovely cakes, fish and chips, pasties, pease pudding. Interesting Churches to visit and Services to attend at the Cathedral. Great shops in Newcastle - could visit the Newcastle Football Club. Ushaw College just outside of Durham open for tours and afternoon tea. Durham is a city very like Winchester and is a University town. There is always the option of taking in a movie if the weather isn't good. The people are extremely friendly and go out of their way to be of help. You won't be disappointed with a visit to such an historical town which has much to offer to the discerning tourist.

"Beautiful venue but let down by the food"
First impressions were wow! My room was amazing. Beds comfy. Great sized rooms. However the restaurant to me was somewhat disappointing. The food was just about ok, but overpriced for what it was. And I was eating alone when most others were dining as couples. Service was pretty slow. I had to ask for more bread as none was offered with the rather meagre starter. Then I was charged for 2 glasses of wine on my bill when I'd clearly only had had one. No apology was forthcoming and I had to wait a while before they came back with the revised bill with the additional glass of wine knocked off. I would have thought they shouldn't charge for the glass I had had personally, and certainly what's happen ended when I have been overcharged elsewhere. If I were the manager I'd be starting improvements in these areas as this would really improve the overall level of satisfaction. This is a beautiful hotel and I would stay again despite these issues.

"Fabulous"
My friend and I had a great time here. My friend booked a double room which has a four poster bed, a nice bath, and a washing room going through a wardrobe like the Chronicles of Narnia. Amazing experience. And I booked a single room but they forgort to clean it up. Luckily they upgrade my room to a double room, with not a four poster but a luxuary bed.

"One night stay at Blackwell Grange"
I booked at this hotel as I have been staying here occasionally for many years & it is close to my relative whom I was visiting. My main point of criticism was that there was no heating in the room as the radiator valve did not work. The fact that it was so loose & wobbly indicated to me that others had tried to tamper with it but without success. Had I been staying with my wife (she wasn't with me on this occasion), she would have had me reporting this to reception straight away or changing the room, as it was a cold night. In the event, I reported it at checkout the following morning. Otherwise the stay at the hotel was OK as the food is good, service is OK & the staff are fine.

Pocket Guide: Conference Centre Hotels in Durham

County Durham in the North East of England an important business and economic hub, where you'll find some of the United Kingdom's liveliest and most successful cities, including Durham, the county town, Darlington and Middlesbrough. Always on the cutting edge of commerce, the region is at the forefront in sectors as diverse as the chemical industry, creative industries, and tourism. If you're travelling to County Durham for a conference you're in luck, as the region boasts some excellent conference centre hotels - not only in the big settlements, but also in more rural locales.

The Benefits of Durham Conference Centre Hotels

Conference facilities are a common feature in modern hotels, especially if they cater for business travellers, offering business centres, free internet and other corporate-friendly facilities. Conference facilities will vary from hotel to hotel, differing in terms of their capacity, additional extras etc., however they will typically offer audio visual equipment, refreshments and be presented in a professional manner. Location is also an important consideration, and many conference centre hotels enjoy convenient city-centre locations, easily accessible by car or public transport. However, more and more rural hotels are choosing to offer conference and business facilities, especially the larger country home establishments. A conference centre hotel doesn't necessarily mean a modern hotel, with many magnificent period buildings offering excellent conference and business facilities, such as Crathorne Hall Hotel, which is located in Yarm.

Conference Centre Hotels in County Durham

Many of the conference hotels in County Durham are concentrated around the major cities, the largest of which isn't Durham, but actually Darlington. The Holiday Inn Darlington is located just outside of the city, easily accessed just off the A1 and boasting a range of corporate amenities, including free WiFi and conference rooms. Many conference attendees will be arriving in the county from overseas, and so may choose a conference centre hotel that's in easy reach of the main airport, Durham Tees Valley. There are several hotels and guesthouses in County Durham that meet this criteria, including Redworth Hall Hotel, which, just like The Holiday Inn Darlington is located just of the A1.
