I stayed here for one night with my two teenage daughters. Staff were cheerful and efficient. The triple room was big enough. (A double & a single). Furniture of mixed ages, condition & styles. Bedlinen & towels were very clean but floor was dirty with debri all over it including what looked like big bits of dry skin. Carpet was moth-eaten in the corner by the window. I don't believe floor had been cleaned at all. New cleaner/hoover needed?
Bathroom adequate although cramped & the shower had a fixed, high up shower head, which made it difficult to get water temperature right without getting in & potentially burning or freezing yourself. Shower cubicle was new-ish but small.
Breakfast freshly cooked to order by cheerful staff & was good. Soya milk was avaliable when we asked.
The hotel is convenient for the railway station, bus station & only a 10 minute walk to centre.
We normally stay in budget hotels & pay around £60-80 for a triple room. This was the only room avaliable in the whole of Durham for the date we needed, with a central location (we had no car) & more or less within our budget. It cost £85 inc. taxes, which I think was expensive for the quality of accomodation.
Did the job but given a choice of other accomodation I wouldn't choose to stay again unless the rooms had been refurbished. Impression is, owner is making enough from pub & meals and not bothered about the rooms. Other reviews say rooms are 'tired', I agree. Pleasant staff though.
