This hotel is in a great location ,its a little noisy but this has to be expected as the rooms are above a bar and restaurant ,the water sustem is also noisy and only one working electric socket in the room. The rooms are made up daily with fresh towels .The staff are helpful and freindly. The restaurant food is very good and resnably priced .breakfastincluded in the price was a excellent Full English with plenty of tea and coffee, also other things available on the breakfast menu. 10 mins walk to Cathedral shops and plenty of bars and restaurant near by. would stay again.

I stayed here for one night with my two teenage daughters. Staff were cheerful and efficient. The triple room was big enough. (A double & a single). Furniture of mixed ages, condition & styles. Bedlinen & towels were very clean but floor was dirty with debri all over it including what looked like big bits of dry skin. Carpet was moth-eaten in the corner by the window. I don't believe floor had been cleaned at all. New cleaner/hoover needed? Bathroom adequate although cramped & the shower had a fixed, high up shower head, which made it difficult to get water temperature right without getting in & potentially burning or freezing yourself. Shower cubicle was new-ish but small. Breakfast freshly cooked to order by cheerful staff & was good. Soya milk was avaliable when we asked. The hotel is convenient for the railway station, bus station & only a 10 minute walk to centre. We normally stay in budget hotels & pay around £60-80 for a triple room. This was the only room avaliable in the whole of Durham for the date we needed, with a central location (we had no car) & more or less within our budget. It cost £85 inc. taxes, which I think was expensive for the quality of accomodation. Did the job but given a choice of other accomodation I wouldn't choose to stay again unless the rooms had been refurbished. Impression is, owner is making enough from pub & meals and not bothered about the rooms. Other reviews say rooms are 'tired', I agree. Pleasant staff though.

For the price I didn’t expect much but it was the worst nights sleep I’ve had in a long time! The train and the road outside were very noisy but worse was the internal noise, people arriving and leaving, going to the loo, having a shower, air in the pipes. The shower was small with a large head so was very difficult to wash hair. The room was tired which made it feel dirty but it was very clean. In the plus, the staff were lovely and helpful and the breakfast was delicious!
