Thin Walls, Terrible View, Overpriced Breakfast

Posted 11-Aug-2017
Pros: Staff, proximity to Dublin Bay.
Cons: Free TV, Better representation of what you are paying for, thicker walls, include breakfast ...... at least continental, in the price of the room.
Location: Walking the pier around Dublin Bay - that's about it.....
It seems that if you use a booking agency like Expedia, you get the bottom of the barrel. From the location (in a heavy traffic area near the elevator), to the terrible view of the building (which was misleading when booking), to the paper thin walls where I could hear EVERYTHING going on in both rooms around me - plus they charge for TV. The balcony wasn't usable and there were cigarette butts on the floor of the balcony. I was sorely disappointed - especially after the costly and long cab ride from the airport. The dinner was lovely, but very few choices (and expensive) and the breakfast was horribly overpriced for what you received (and is totally self served so don't ask for anything). The redeeming quality was Dublin Bay which was a lovely walk and site, especially in the morning. The staff were also quite welcoming but I was a bit lost as to the coffee area, barm restaurant, --- even the wifi. For what I spent, I would go elsewhere or book direct so I am not punished for saving money and using a third party (and maybe then I wouldn't receive the bottom of the barrel choice of rooms).

Elegant hotel with great views

Posted 28-Jul-2017
Pros: The hotel lobby is lovely and has views of the sea.
Cons: We were in the Presidential Suite and the lighting in the bathroom was very dim.
We found the Royal Marine Hotel elegant, well located and having wonderful sea views. The staff were friendly and helpful. The facility was in need of a few upgrades but overall, the charm made up got it.

Bad start but a good recovery!!

Posted 26-Jul-2017
I booked this hotel for a weekend away for my mums 60th with 3 people sharing an executive room. On arrival it was quickly apparent that the sofa bed was quite uncomfortable so asked for another mattress. There weren't many staff that understood what a mattress was as I was brought bed sheets twice?? Also our shower was broken BUT once we spoke to the wonderful hotel manager Jason he rectified both issues within the hour and was extremely helpful throughout our stay and following this we had a wonderful few days thanks to him.

Very Nice Hotel but a bit loud

Posted 24-Jul-2017
Pros: Food, coffee bar, location, rooms
Cons: provide American AC adapters in the rooms along with European.
Location: right across from train station to Dublin, many excellent restaurants in the area, museums nearby and walks on along the seashore.
Beautiful hotel, facilities etc in a great location overlooking the Irish Sea. Staff were wonderfully helpful and even upgraded us. My only two knocks are that they had some band performing until 2 a.m. and it kept us awake and the hotel staff were unable to get them to quiet it down. Secondly, they have no American outlets requiring us to bring adapters and for the Apple Mac computer power supply is too heavy to stay on the adapters.

Recommended only on basis of room change...

Posted 21-Jul-2017
Booked executive room but on arrival had room with balcony facing red brick wall with flat roof below at side of hotel. Our friends who booked standard room had seaview ! We were then moved to a 'standard room' with seaview having paid for an executive room due to no other exec rooms available. Reception refused to give a refund on the difference. Always worries me when I book through expedia that due to commission charge you get dumped in worst room of each category. Bar prices excessive. Make sure you bring swim hat and flip flops or you can't use pool facilities. Entrance lobby a bit tired for a 4*. All other factors good. Location excellent.

A hotel near the pier .

The Royal Marine is set in the village of Dun Laoighaire near to all its facilities and amenities. The hotel has a large public area with an excellent leisure complex encompassing a great pool which is exceptionally suitable for children. It's prime location is it's greatest asset. Near to DART station and with bus stop outside so getting into Dublin City centre is very straight forward. Lovely restaurants nearby - particularly recommend the Italian restaurant Toscana. The Royal Marine was good value for money and a hotel I can easily recommend especially to families.
