The romantic landscape of Scotland’s southern region of Dumfries and Galloway not only provides a stunning scenic backdrop for those looking for the ultimate wedding destination, but it also has a long and storied history as one of the UKs most popular places for elopement. Smiths Hotel and the Gretna Green Blacksmiths Shop lie in the sleepy village of Gretna Green, where English lovers would cross the border into Scotland and be married before the blacksmiths anvil, which served as an altar.
Whether you’re after an outdoor wedding in the rolling green hills, forests, and coastline of this majestic region, or want a more traditional event in a church or hotel, the services and amenities of one of Dumfries and Galloway’s local wedding hotels is sure to provide you and your guests with the ultimate experience on and around your big day.
