Good value for money. Restaurant was very good. Hotel was tired and could do with upgrading and the beds were comfortably but the bathrooms are in need of refurbishing

Very much enjoyed staying at this hotel. Staff were very good, even at the late time we came in at. Hotel is situated a little ways off the main road in very picturesque and ideal spot. Rooms were clean and the front area of the hotel was an amazing area to just sit in for a bit. Old woodwork with comfortable yet antique style furniture.

Two night stay for work purposes. High Customer care throughout from my arrival. Staff very attentive in the restaurant. Gorgeous location, really relaxing. Highly recommend. Will definitely stay again.

Very pleasant winter stay.
Front desk person could not have been more helpful. Only thing I would add that a rail on the wall above the bath would help us oldies feel safer in the shower - there was nothing to hold on to. Noticed on a sign I could ask for an anti slip mat once I was in the shower - too late then.

Quaint, rustic and very traditional! Wonderful staff, very helpful and polite, beautiful surrounding area with fantastic walks, a great midpoint for the Scottish Highlands.

Having stayed at Friars Carse before,with two small dogs we didnt dine in. This time only having one and advertised as dog friendly,we decided to do so.For this we payed £15 per night,we stayed two nights and received a dog blanket and two metal bowls in our room. Dinner first night was in a piano room with dining chairs and table and low background music. The waiter could not be more attentive and we had an excellent dinner. Breakfast the next day was in the same piano room,though if you required orange juice,toast or cereal,you had to walk to the main dining room some 50 yards away. That night for dinner our actual anniversary we were informed,that we would be in the small bar area,this time the seating comprised of a club chair and high small circular table.adjacent to a covered table that fishermen the night before tied flies at. Once served with dinner,fish and chips,we again had to ask for condiments and vinegar and waited a good 5-7 minutes,while the waitress served at the bar,following this the glass/dish washer was switched on and it being a small room,conversation was difficult.After the main course,we again waited and had to move our plates away to an adjoining table,while the washer still rumbled on. We did raise our concerns with a member of staff at reception,but while they sympathised,they stated that only two staff members were covering the bar and dining room,the bar area was unsuitable for dining and and although charged for nothing was provided for dogs

Relaxing Scottish break
Lovely traditional hotel set in grounds along the banks of the River Nith. Staff were all very friendly and made you feel welcome. Meals were very good and they happily catered to special requests. Would recommend this hotel particularly for couples wanting a relaxing Scottish break.

Needed somewhere to stop over before an early ferry crossing. This hotel ticked the boxes. Fascinating well set up for anglers as it turns out and a big fishing spot, it’s a lovely location with views over the river. We loved dinner, the quality of the meal exceeded expectations and we recommend dining if staying. Only reservation is that the rooms are a little tired. Would use again

The hotel was beautiful. Definitely recommended the dinner and breakfast. Very well cooked and presented. Room was large but bathroom could do with regrouting. Staff were lovely. Recommended staying as the grounds were stunning

My room was dirty on arrival had to ask them to go clean.Had two night dinner food was of bad quality, and decided to go into town for the next two nights.In the morning asked for a omelette and said they can not make for me only what was on the menu,very disappointed will not say there again 1 plus thing was the view was beautiful my window overlooked the river .

An amazingly wonderful place to stay, full of character and in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. A warm welcome, spacious room with open views, a very comfy bed, and an excellent breakfast. A glass of wine on the bench by the river at sundown... heaven! All at a bargain price. Will certainly return.
